I just received my PLM (to play with). I performed the following steps in PH using alpha7 and was wondering whether there is anything I missed.
1. PH Explorer>Setup>Controller> Diabled PLC and added PLM.
2. Internet Explorer>Setup>PLC(sic)Setup Add Min - Add Powerhome Insteon IDs to PLC/PLM
3. Internet Explorer>Devices - Changed all controllers for all devices from PLC to PLM.
That's all I did and all devices seem to work.
Do I need to change any other references in PH (macros etc)?
Could I have just 'replaced' the PLC with the PLM on the Insteon Explorer>Devices tab? (I assume no).
Anything else?
Thanks.

I gather you don’t define the PLM in Explorer> Insteon> Devices. That being the case I wonder where the address for Groups Controllers is kept. Anyways mine is setup like yours but not activated until I get through the memory leak test.

It appeared in Devices by itself. Probably after I defined it in setup.
I also didn't add Links to the PLM from each device. It appears to respond as the PLC did. Maybe the PLC's links got transferred to the PLM. Have to ask Dave about that.

Since I went through the same procedure my Group In triggers stopped functioning. The only thing I did in the Insteon Explorer screen was to change any links from the PLC to the PLM. So far as I can tell the other Insteon triggers are working.

The method I used follows:
1. Define the PLM controller. Set the port, etc. and set it active. Set the Insteon SDM controller inactive. Physically plug everything in. Reinitialize.
2. Open the Insteon Explorer. PowerHome should have auto-detected the PLM and created a device for the PLM called PLMCTLR1.
3. Since I wasnt sure if I wanted to go back and forth between the PLM and the PLC, I didnt want to just do a replace device. But I wanted the PLM to do everything that the PLC used to do so I just copied the PLC links. I did this by opening the Insteon Explorer and navigating to the "Links" tab. I made the POWERLINC1 the current device and highlighted ALL of the controller links and ALL of the responder links. I then clicked on the "Copy" text and declined to include the current device as a responder.
4. Next, make the PLMCTLR1 the current device in the Links screen. Click on the "Paste" text and all of the PLC links will be copied to the PLM. Click "Save" and let'er rip. When complete, you should have every link that the PLC had just the same in the PLM. Later, when you feel that you no longer need the PLC, you can go back into the links screen, bring up the POWERLINC1 device and delete all of it's controller and responder links.
Hope this helps,
Dave.

The other question is macros, etc. Seems, if I remember correctly (not looking currently) that you specify the controller AND the device in some of these. They would all have to be updated, correct?

I hope I got this right.. Trying to simplify and put all the information in one place. These instructions are from Noel and Dave’s implementations.
1. PH Explorer>Setup>Controller> - Disable PLC and add PLM. Click on Settings and verify COM PORT and any others.
2. Reinitialize
3. PH Explore>Devices>X10 and/or Insteon Units - Change PLC to PLM.
4. Insteon Explorer>Setup – “Clear PLC/PLM Database” then “Add Min”
5. Insteon Explorer>Links - Make the POWERLINC1 the current device and highlighted ALL of the controller links and ALL of the responder links. Then click on the "Copy" text and declined to include the current device as a responder.
6. Next, make the PLMCTLR1 the current device in the Links screen. Click on the "Paste" text and all of the PLC links will be copied to the PLM. Click "Save" and let'er rip.
7. Insteon Explorer>PLC/PLM Groups - Change all controllers for all groups from PLC to PLM.

I followed these steps and while some things are working, something else fundamental isn't:
Any use of the ph_insteon commend to control my KPLs or SwitchLincs is returning a -2 error, which according to the Help, means "the controller does not support Insteon."
This is happening when I run macros or triggers that use formulas.
However, when I use the Insteon Explorer to control devices, it works fine.
Help?
Thanks!

2 things come to mind. In Setup-Controller Insteon PLM is active. In Devices-Insteon-Units the devices have PLM as their controller.

Magician! It was the second. Sorry, I thought I had made that setting change but I guess it didn't stick.
Thanks!

Okay, second issue (and possibly last, because everything else seems to be working perfectly):
I have _one_ KPL that does not appear to be linking correctly to the PLM. It's link status remains as 'Flagged Create' even after the create link operation shows up in the 'completed operations' window in Insteon Explorer.
I have deleted and recreated the links multiple times. (I have multiple links from this one device to the PLM: once as responder, multiple as controller).
It's possible, though I can't say for certain, that it's my oldest KPL and therefore an old firmware version, but I only got into Insteon at the start of '08 so it can't be that old.
The KPL itself seems to work correctly, it's just not linking correctly.
Thoughts?
Thanks

This is a KPL issue. I had the same thing. Try going
into Insteon Explorer setup tab, clear the PLM database
and then Add Min.
That worked for me. Don't know why though.

Is it any link or just 1. And you are saving after you create…

Any link for that one KPL. Adding the PML to the KPL as a responder, and adding the PLM to the KPL as a controller for any group. Yes, after adding them I click save. I've tried combos of quitting Insteon Explorer and reiniting; same results.

The only thing I can suggest is to Echo Raw Log to File and trap the Create that doesn’t take. We can then take a look at the log and see what responses if any we’re getting. It should be going through a handshaking routine. Lee G. is good at debugging the protocol if it can be trapped.

Check the firmware level of the KPL you are having a problem with against the firmware level of those KPLs that are working. Right hand window of Devices tab, scroll right to find Firmware column.
Also while in the right hand window, what is in the COMM Reliability column for the KPL having the linking problem.

Nothing appears in the log. :(
It's weird: after dragging the PLM into the KPL as a responder and clicking save, both Ctlr Link Status and Resp Link status change to 'flagged create' but the only pending operation that appears is for 'Create Resp Link'. Once it runs, I get it as a completed operation, and the Resp Link Status changes to 'verified' but Ctlr Link status remains as 'flagged create'.
And there it stands and I can't go any further. And nothing appears in the raw log file.
Is it an actual problem with the KPL? Or is it some kind of incompatibility between the KPL and the Aplha version?
