jeffw_00, do you know how that works. Not questioning that it does but Dave said the motion sensor does not support the Peek/Poke commands to allow writing a specific link record in the motion sensor and a PLC does not support extended commands even if PH had a mind to use them. I'm wondering if the motion sensor sends out a Group Broadcast only since it seems it would not know the address of the PLC. PH would recognize the Group Broadcast because of the responder link for the motion sensor in the PLC. Might not be as reliable as a normal link that would also cause the Group Cleanup Direct message but would work on a good powerline network. Have you watched the event log when the motion sensor senses motion to see what Insteon command(s) it is actually sending?
Lazyman, I think the PLC Set button has to be held for 10-12 seconds for it to respond to the manual link request and you need to do it before the motion sensor goes back to sleep.

Jeff, I saw where you had linked using PH but in my case it would not work unless I manually linked it to the PLM. Don’t know why other than Peek/Poke unless I was doing something wrong. To answer the question ,if you want to go ahead and link it manually put the Motion Sensor in Link Mode and then hold the Set button in at the PLC until the Motion Sensor stops blinking. On my PLM that took about 4 seconds.
EDIT: Lee didn't mean to jump on top of you.. Ships passing in the night.

I don't have powerhome in front of me but the sensor sends a group command twice. I actually set up to debounce as I only need to see it once. I think I have PH set to receive a Insteon Group In command or some such, not a Broadcast.

Jeff, you are correct. That’s the way I have mine. Grp In, 1, On, 1

Concerning linking the motion sensor to the PLC/PLM, I think Jeff is referring to the "Manual Link" tab in the Insteon Explorer.
If the motion sensor did not sleep (ie was always awake) you should be able to do the linking without having to press any buttons at all using the manual linking tab. Since the motion detector is a battery powered RF device though, you will need to at least put it in linking mode by pressing and holding its set button. Once it is in link mode, you should be able to open the Insteon Explorer, navigate to the Manual Linking tab and in the second groupbox ("PLC/PLM as Responder Linking"), click the "Link" button to create the link between the motion sensor and the PLC/PLM. Ideally, the motion sensor would support standard peek/poke commands (or PowerHome would have the extended command support ) but in the meantime, this simplify a little bit and eliminate the need to manually press a button on the PLC. You should also be able to create links between the motion sensor and other Insteon devices using this screen as well (only the newer devices however...this screen uses a newer command set that older devices do not support).
HTH,
Dave.

Hi Dave - on one hand, I would never disagree with the creator 8-}
But I don't think you -have- to push the link button if the sensor is "awake" (i.e., recently sensed motion). All I had to do was create the responder links and PH started receiving Group commands on Groups 1-3.
BTW - if you power-cycle it (remove and re-attach battery) you get a Low-Batt (group 3) command which is a nice test.
