Personal preference? I use Pronto as that is the format I usually see online.

Thanks Tony, I’ll try that and see if it fixes the problem.

I finally started playing with my uirt this weekend - mostly it works great!

I had trouble getting it to work with the power on . off buttons for my tunner (an old Philips). The LED would flash, but nothing would happen on the tunner (the rest of the buttons worked fine). I even installed Tonto and dug into my old pronto templates to copy the IR code from there (where it had always worked) - no love.

What finally fixed it for me was changing the repeat count at the end of the IR command from 3 to 6 ("<repeat>6").

This is probably not your issue, but be aware that some commands may take longer than the default 3 repeats (it also possible that the default 3 may be to much for others).

A couple tricks I came up with:
  • My plasma screen does not have a power toggle - just the discrete on / off. Due to limited screen realestate I wanted my touch screen to have a toggle ability. I was going to try and track state (not to useful since the screen is on an unpowered arm and it's common to turn it on manually as it's being pulled away from the wall.) what ended up working for me was a quick <off><on> combo (I think that was the order - the other way did not work). If the screen is off it goes on (obviously), the cool thing is that apparently the screen does not receive IR momentarily after its turned off - so if the screen is on only the first command is acted on. So now I have a toggle!

  • When changing the tuner from the TV/DVD (really Vista Media Center) to radio (or vice versa - the radio is much louder) I wanted to set the volume to a pre-defined level. My plan was change to an unused input (silence), run the volume all the way down, change to the new input (Radio or DVD) then back up X times. Since I don't know what the volume was set to (0-50) I'd have to send 50 volume down commands then X volume up commands - it was taking more than 10 seconds to do this. Instead I created a new IR command in my tuner device, copied the vol down command there and then experimented with the <repeat> count to effectively "hold down" the remote button long enough to wind the volume to 0. To go back up to the pre-defined volume levels I set two volume ups the same way. This works great and takes less than 2 seconds.

Hope someone finds this useful!

There seems to be a commonality between PWR ON/OFF, PH and USB-UIRT. I now have an amplifier that won’t respond as well as my Sat Receiver. I tried changing the repeat but to no avail. My Panasonic plasma does respond to PWR ON/OFF.

Well a little bit of success with the amplifier.    I kept increasing the repeat up until it finally responded at 12. I guess the manufactures are making sure when you hit the Pwr button that’s what you intend to do.

Progress has been made. The PWR ON/OFF problem is definitely related to the number of Repeats. I increased the repeats in the individual code not the settings and it cured the problem with all my devices that had the problem. Currently I have the Settings set at 6 and the individual PWR increased to 12. I’m using RAW.
