So are you saying you're going to have virtual devices that can be configured to fire PH Macros? In other words show a graphical representation of a KPL on the iphone screen and have the buttons "do" something, fire a macro, turn on/off a light, etc. and be able to label the buttons accordingly.

I am picturing a list of functions almost. So one entry could be "Kitchen Light" that would just be a device control. Another could be "Family Room Lights" that would be a group. Another could be "Movie Lighting" that would be a macro that does a bunch of device control commands maybe even IR commands to change the TV input.
I really like the idea of a virtual KPL. I think it would be really cool to be able to map one of the items in the list to a virtual KPL button. This virtual KPL would then become the first tab when you open the app making it 2 taps (launch the app, press the button) to do that function you want. I am not sure how that would work, but I really like it.

Kevin,
Please put me on the list as well. Additionally, I am running the beta OS version 3 build 7A312G software from Apple so that may give you a jump for when this gets released GA.
I have ~30 insteon devices and am doing TTS with voice recognition.

How has it been working for you? I haven't put 3.0 on my phone since you can't easily downgrade. I have been doing most of my testing in the 3.0 simulator though.

Thats one thing I have really wanted to try. I just haven't put the time into it.

myself and 5 others have been running it for about 3 months now with no "major" issues yet;-) There are some small hiccups now and then but nothing big.

Based on some of the other forum members advice I went with the natural voices from AT&T. So far so good although it is weird when Jarvis starts talking;-)
Secretly though... it is fun watching the girl friend when the house starts talking...

The app will be sold in the app store. I am
thinking there will be a free light version and a
paid version. The plan is to start beta testing
this weekend. I just have a few little things I
want to get cleaned up first.
I have started using the app and I must say it is
fast. It can fire macros faster than a KPL and you
can easily turn on and off multiple lights without
waiting between button presses. The startup
time is a little longer than I would like but I
think it can be improved.

Well I missed my goal. I spent much of Saturday trying to figure out how to update views to show what lights are on. It looks like I will need a fairly mager rewrite of one of the core classes, but I think I can hold that off until version 2. I got it working this morning. With any luck I will have it all packaged up for beta testing in the next day or 2.

So I started doing the research on how to beta test iPhone apps and found that I need some information from all of my beta testers. I have to specifically allow each device that the app will be tested on. So here is what I need from you.
1. Connect the iPhone or iPod Touch and open iTunes.
2. Select the device from the device list.
3. On the summary tab click on the Serial Number. (It will change to the Identifier (UDID))
4. Press Cmd-C (Mac) or Ctrl-C (Windows) to copy the 40 character hex key.
5. Paste the key in a private message. (Dont post it in the forum!)
Once I get a couple of them I will build the project and send it out. Unfortunately the way the Ad Hoc distribution works the app will only run on the devices that I have added the UDID of.
If you have any problems let me know.

Ok the beta is up. I will be sending private messages with links in a few minutes. Here is how to install.
1. Extract the files from the zip file (URL in pm).
2. Drag both iHome (iHome.app folder on Windows) and iHome_Beta.mobileprovision into iTunes.
3. Sync iPhone/iPod Touch.
The beta will only run on the devices that were added to the list before the app was compiled. If you have another device let me know and I will add it.
Let me know if you have any problems as I can't really test this.

One more thing. The web server needs to be enabled with a username and password for the app to work. The url can be an IP or a domain name. For it when you are not on your local WiFi you will need to enter a URL that works from outside and configure your firewall to forward the traffic to PowerHome. If you use a port other than 80 add a semicolon ":" fallowed by the port to the URL. For example mine is "awesometown.co.uk:8080". You can test your settings by tapping the "Open In Safari" button.

I have Kevin's beta up and running on an iTouch and I
like it. Quick, clean and responsive.
Kevin is running OSX so the windows installation is a
little different and he asked me to post what I did.
Download his file and unzip it to you desktop. Open
iTunes and go to Library>Applications (not your ipod
device listing). Drag iHome_Beta.mobileprovision into
iTunes and then drag the iHome.app folder into iTunes.
Resync and you should be all set.

Thanks for sharing that. My iPhone is synced with my Mac so it's not easy for me to test the PC side of this.
If anyone else wants to try the beta let me know.

Just a little status update. I am working on a few new concepts that will hopefully simplify the setup while adding a lot more flex ability (ie status on formula/group buttons and dimming). Its turning out to be a much bigger change than I was originally thinking. That being said I will rebuild beta 1 for those of you still waiting to get the beta.
How has beta 1 been working? What features are missing? Is 12 buttons more than enough or to few?
My personal wish list. (in no particular order)
1. Setting and modifying timed events.
2. Status updates from formula (ie motion sensor calls a macro that sets a gobal var that is then read by iHome).
3. GUI to set / change the button / command relationship.
4. Auto look up of devices in PH.
5. Configurable refresh rate.
6. Spotlight integration (3.0).

New build available. I am calling it beta 1.1 but there are very little
changes since beta 1. The main purpose in this build is to add devices to
the provisioning profile. Beta 2 is not quite ready to be released just yet.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON DEVICES I HAVE ADDED TO THE
PROVISIONING PROFILE. IF YOU HAVE NOT SENT ME YOUR UDID DO NOT
DOWNLOAD THIS. IT WILL NOT WORK.

I get this error when I sync my phone after adding the app to iTunes: The application "iHome" was not installed on the iPhone "brady's iPhone" because it could not be verified.

Did you drag the iHome_Beta.mobileprovision into iTunes?
