Tony,
I am planing a similar project but instead of using X10 modules, I have one of those remote control video switchers....4 RCA video inputs, one out and only about $55

Sounds good.
Extra appliance modules plus no IR device = what I have now. 
The only thing better for me would have been a 4-input capture card.
