Cicero, I use the 10-AMP since it is in front of all my UPS, 3 surge outlets. I probably only draw around 4 amps.

If your not afraid to take the device apart and void the warrenty. The ONLY difference between the 5 amp and 10amp device is the fuse. If you look around the forums I believe I've seen somone from smarthome confirm this. Pretty typical to do this, would cost smarthome more to manufacture 2 models.

The fuse isn't the easyiest to remove, easyier if your willing to de-solder it. Usually when they stop working this is the cause aswel.

I'm not saying its safe.

That's good to know and interesting. Actually, I'm glad there are fuses in there. I'm careful as to what I plug in but always worried I'll edge past the 10 amp mark.

Honestly, though, desoldering/removing the fuse to put a new one in there is hardly worth the $5 price difference, but then again, I've done that to add blue LEDs to various devices :)

Sounds like the same problem I am having. But I have the same stupid question....how did you keep the USB connection to the computer when you moved it to the other side of the house?

I use a USB Extender that that allows me to go beyond the 15' limit. I’m running at about 25’ away from the computer.
