Jaaay,
I have purchased the Razberry daughtercard and started
adding support for this controller. Things are
progressing nicely and Im currently able to control
and monitor my small collection of Z-wave devices from
within PowerHome.
Still have a bit to go before release but its looking
good. Z-wave is quite a bit different from Insteon so
its definitely an adjustment for me.
Anyways, not sure how many different Z-wave
controllers I'll be able to add support for since its
a closed system but the Razberry will be the first.
Dave.

Sweet Dave!! I already have a Raspberry PI so adding a
Razberry daughtercard should be straight forward. I like
that the whole thing is small and will easily fit into
my central wiring box with my insteon hub. Keep us
updated. I have a zwave outlet I can test with. Are you
far enough along that I can move forward with purchasing
the Razberry? I could be working on getting that all
connected. Let me know.

Jaaay,
Im definitely far enough along where Im confident that
it will work well as a z-wave controller for
PowerHome. It does require some extensive database
changes so it will take a little while to put a
release together. I'll be out of country for a couple
of months as well and don't think I'll have a release
complete before then so it will probably be 3 months
total before I actually have something available.
In the meantime though, it works alright using the
internal webserver of the Razberry and you would need
to go ahead and include all z-wave devices and get it
working stand-alone before it would be able to be
controlled by PowerHome.
Dave.

Dave (and all) - here is a shortcut that wouldn't
require a lot of engineering. The unit handles Z-Wave
mgmt entirely, functions as a primary controller,
supports Z-Wave Plus features and would communicate
back/forth with your software via ASCII or JSON
commands: HomeSeer A2Z-Link
http://store.homeseer.com/store/x-P1879.aspx
So, you'd just need to write a simple JSON or ASCII
driver to integrate it.

Mark,
Appreciate the info. I had taken a cursory look at the A2Z-Link when I was first looking for a Z-wave controller but the product wasnt yet available.
Once I finish support for the Razberry Z-wave controller, I will definitely take another look and see about adding support for it. The ASCII/JSON interface makes the product very attractive.
I would like to give users several options when it comes to Z-Wave so this device and open-zwave will most likely be my other options.
Thanks,
Dave.

Dave any update on Z-wave ?
My Rfid door lock is acting up and I was looking into
Z-wave door locks - I don't have any Z-wave Hub
(controller) . I did check the Doc's of homeseer A2Z-
Link, seems like it can work but not cheap like
smartThing and others. Just want to get the Hardware
which I can use later with Powerhome.
Thanks

Nick,
Im back to working on the Z-wave code. Everything is
looking pretty good so far. I can reliably read and
write my Z-wave devices and pretty much just need to
add the logging and triggers and should then be ready
for a release. Its still probably a couple of months
out though.
The initial Z-wave controller that will be supported
will be the Razberry Z-wave daughtercard for the
Raspberry Pi. After that, I'll be looking potentially
at the HomeSeer A2Z-Link controller and Open Z-wave.
Dave.

I used A2Z-link and couple of Z-wave devices and control
them thru PH -I will try to post once testing complete.

Peter,
Z-wave development continues working on the new version. Im having very good success using the Razberry daughtercard (the first z-wave interface to supported in PowerHome) and am
able to send/receive/trigger off of my test group of devices. I thought I was nearly done but after getting some more z-wave devices to test and add to my collection its obvious I
need some more work. Im currently re-designing a couple of the major tables to be a more generic representation of z-wave data to handle more devices and command classes.
Its definitely coming along and will be fully ready to go for the next version but it doesnt look like it will make it out before the end of the year with the work remaining.
Dave.

Peter,
I have been using Z-wave with Powerhome with makeshift
of my own and its seems to hold okay.
controller A2Z-link - Z-wave Controller
devices - have power switch and Z-wave door lock.
wrote a Bridge-plugin in java, will be happy to share
until Dave provides the patch to fix the plugin
problem of powerhome.
Z-wave devices like door lock can send lots of
different data and status.
Powerhome sends all Z-wave to Bridge where Bridge
sends info to A2Z-link and any info received from A2z
is also send back to Powerhome all thru Socket IO.
in powerhome I am processing that info to my needs and
using it.
Its not very sophisticated but I can operate Z-wave
stuff. A2Z- also has web interface and software which
comes with it.

Nick,
Ive downloaded the protocol for the A2Z-link
controller and it appears fairly simple. I plan to add
support for it as well. Ive talked to Rich at Homeseer
about the protocol but if you've discovered anything
in actual use of the device, please feel free to pass
on any tips or nuances as I don't actually have a
device to test with.
Appreciate it,
Dave.

Dave,
its seems to works fine but with yale door lock from
Homeseer you can add or delete user pin code. I cant
find any way thru Ascii command. I have opened the
Ticket for almost a month but no reply from them and I
got busy with my work, now I will call them to check
on it.
let me know if you need any info or try out something
on it.

No one has asked about Z-Wave for a while so I thought I would ask. Dave indicated that database requirements are extensive but I am losing faith in Insteon (not PH) due to declining quality of devices (very high failure rate among my 60 or so devices), lots of false commands (lights turning on by themselves) and impossible problems with Insteon thermostats (how many times do I need to explain to my wife why the A/C cool point has been set to zero). Insteon is a first-generation technology and no longer really fit for purpose. I could probably start replacing failed Insteon switches with Z-Wave and have a 100% conversion in three years. I refuse to use Insteon for sensitive applications such as door locks and watering systems due an unacceptable pattern of improper activity. We (and PH) need Z-Wave functionality really before any other major enhancements.
I know that Dave is working as hard as possible and had issues with Z-Wave product immaturity early in the decade but the first question about Z-Wave integration goes back to 2011.
Just my thoughts.
Terry

Terry,
I asked last year and still waiting (: , having said
that I agree with you about Insteon - I have been
replacing slowly Insteon with Z-wave and controlling
with PH - It has its own problem but nothing like
Insteon.
Dave if you work with Homeseer - may be problem of
keeping up to date with z-wave database could be
solved and may be quicker integration with PH.

Terry,
Im nearly done with the zwave support for PowerHome (at least for an initial release...if it's anything like Insteon, it will never be "done"). The initial support will be via the Razberry daughter card for the Raspberry PI. I hope to also add support for more generic zwave interfaces using the Open Zwave libraries but will have to see if that will work out or not.
I was also looking at adding support for the Homeseer A2Z-link controller. There was some fundamental differences in how the support would need to be handled (the Razberry is a fairly low level interface whereas the A2Z-link was a very high level interface) so I would need to design a separate set of tables. The problem now is that the A2Z-link has been discontinued. Im not certain if another device has come along to replace it or not with the same functionality but will be something that I can look into further after the release of the Razberry support.
I share your feelings concerning Insteon reliability. It seems like Ive replaced nearly every device at least 2 times and some as many as 3 or 4. It's gotten so bad, my wife has told me she doesnt want me getting any more "crapsteon"...her words, not mine ). Ive been pretty impressed by the zwave so far and will probably be looking to slowly migrate over time. The one thing that Insteon does have though is the variety of modules available (such as IOLinc, etc) but it does look like more and more zwave options are becoming available.
Dave.
