Just received PH2. 2414U is recognized by Win 7 with Blue T and isresponding true. When I start PH2, the Controller Wizard for both Insteon and X-10 end up giving me "command failed for Insteon PLC. Idea?

Did you try going to Setup then Controllers and to Setting and set the PLC up using PH Explorer?

Ghost,

Just wondering if you're on Vista/Win 7 or XP. If Vista/Win 7, make sure you install into c:\powerhome rather than c:\program files\powerhome. Also, right click on sdm3.exe and select "Run as administrator" and set compatibility to Windows XP.

With that out of the way, use the PowerHome Explorer to create the controller. Just open the Explorer from the Maintenance menu and navigate the tree to PowerHome|Setup|Controllers. You'll already have a blank line or possibly some failed lines as a result of the wizard. If you've got failed lines, just right click the line and select delete. If you don't have a blank line, right click and select insert. Give it an appropriate id (I use INSTEON or PLC) and select the controller type as "Insteon DM". Click the settings button, confirm the defaults and close. Close the Explorer and reinit or restart PowerHome.

Lets see where that gets us.

Dave.

I really appreciate the help.

Win7. Reinstalled PH2 into C:\Powerhome\. Set SDM3 Properties Compatibility to Windows Xp (Service Pack 3) and checked Run as Administrator and set for All Users. isresponding=true when rt click on localhost explorer page. Find PLC results in Port found at USB4.

Completed PH Explorer setup per your instructions above. At the bottom of the PH2 screen I get Event: System Message colored Red followed by SmartHome Device Manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC INSTEON UP. Attempting to restart controller... Then I get the Auto Message continuously ... In the system tray I have a blue T, the Green PH and a Red/Yellow SqL.

Win7 Control Panel Devices hows the SmartHome Powerlinc USB E installed with both Human Interface Functions installed and "working properly".

When I got looking in pwrhome.21b, although installed in root c:\, there are several entries referencing c:\program files\powerhome\. Does this make sense?

If it was me I would uninstall and delete all Powerhome folders no matter where they are. I would then install using all defaults. You don’t need to run in compatibility mode. But do install with admin rights. Bring up PH and go to setup and configure the PLC controller with the port it is using. Don’t forget to mark it active. Then either restart or do a reinit of Powerhome and the controller should be seen. Then do a load of “core apps” in Insteon Explorer followed by a “add min”. You should be good to go. If not, one of us will figure it out.

Ok I just tested a PLC and you don’t need to define the port. But make sure the controller is mark active and the preferences have load controllers checked. Mine came up clean. Win7 64bit system. Also don't plug the plc into a powerstrip. Pick a clean outlet and keep the cable under 15 feet.

I’ll keep my PLC hooked up to my test system until you get going. Your system tray is normal. And the reason you may have a folder in Program Files may be the leftover of a previous install.

Ghost,

I just had another user with this exact same problem. You could manually launch SDM3.exe (you get a popup message asking if its ok to run) and get isresponding=true but PowerHome won't talk to it. We got a little further by right-clicking pwrhome.exe and setting it to "Run as administrator". What seemed to finally solve the problem was to turn UAC off and reboot. After that, PowerHome launched the SDM and connected to it no problem.

Not sure why this is but it seems that some users must turn UAC off while for others it makes no difference. I would give this a try though and see if it works for you.

Dave I think it has to do with the updates. I had that problem in the early days of Vista. UAC had to be off. It also so causes a simulated wait and SDM might object to it.
