Hi - I'm using the 2843-222 Open/Close Sensor to detect when my garage doors are open/closed. I notice that when it changes state it sends a single Group 1 On (or Off) command, along with a Grp Brdcast Success/Fail message.

The problem is that one time the On/Off command didn't get received (I assume it was sent as the Grp Brdcast Success/Fail was received). So it was lost, as there's no handshake or redundancy.

Given what I know about Insteon, I'm surprised there's no handshake or redundancy here, or some way to poll the sensor.

Can anyone comment on this?

thanks

Jeff,

Unfortunately, the open/close sensor really has no way to query it. Ive gone through the developers notes for the device and can find no work around.
The problem is that it is a battery powered device so it doesnt "listen" for Insteon commands. My understanding is that when the sensor is triggered
(open or close) the command is sent (a group broadcast, followed by direct group cleanups, followed by a broadcast success/fail message) and then goes
back to sleep within a couple of seconds. During this short window when the device is sending commands and the two seconds before it falls asleep, you
are able to query the device or send commands to it.

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you've linked it to your PLM. If you have another device you don't mind having it linked to (it will
control this device on and off so be aware of that) then that will give you an extra chance to pick up the group cleanup command (group cleanup commands
are sent individually to each linked device).

Since the group broadcast is unacknowledged and can easily be missed, your best bet is catching the group cleanups.

Dave.

My apologies on this one Dave. I should have "CLOSED" this issue when I found out it was because SW linking didn't work. Now that I'm properly linked I no longer have this problem.
