Not a PowerHome question, but I hope to get some help anyway.
I have a ceiling fan in my family room. Currently I have an Insteon dimmer controlling
the light, but the only way I can control the fan speed and direction is to get out my
ladder and climb up there and pull the chain to control the speed and flip the reverse
switch to change direction. I do have a wall switch to turn the fan on or off. I want to
be able to control the speed/direction from the wall. I see the Insteon fanlinc
http://www.smarthome.com/2475F/FanLinc-INSTEON-Ceiling-Fan-a nd-Light-Controller-Fixture-
Module-Dual-Band/p.aspx but this also controls the light, which I don't need, and does
not seem to be able to reverse the fan. I don't really need an Insteon controller for the
fan, but it would be kinda cool. But it doesn't look like the one controller they have
will meet my needs. Are there any other options (insteon or non-Insteon), short of
replacing the fan?

You may be able to get a remote kit for it and hack the transmitter for actuation by relays.

We just moved from Michigan to Florida and I now have
LOTs of fans. Just tried installing a 2475F FanLink
controller on a fan but don't see any way to set it up
with PH. I should be able to control both the fan speed
and the light but don't see any way to do that. In the
Explorer Links window it just appears as a single device
and the Options button on the Devices Tab offers no
differentiation between fan and light.
Does PH treat things as different Group numbers or are
there hidden controls I haven't found yet?

Ken,
I'll need to add some support for this device in the
next version. Took a look at the manual and the light
should be controllable via the Insteon device that was
created. This is group 1 for this device.
The fan is controlled via group 2. This is the part
I'll need to add support for in the Analog I/O screen
(similar to the Insteon thermostat, Garagehawk,
IOLinc, etc). Im trying to think of a good way to
control the Fan part currently and cant really think
of a good way. The best I can come up with for now
would be to create links with the PLM as controller
and the FanLinc group 2 as responder. You'll need to
create 3 different links (PLM groups). One with the
Fanlinc group 2 at 100% (Fast), one with the fanlinc
group 2 at 75% (medium), one with fanlinc group 2 at
25% (slow). Turning any of these links off will turn
the fan off or you could create a 4th link with the
fanlinc group 2 level set to 0. You'll then be able to
control the fan via PowerHome but won't be able to
have a nice single button and display unless you do it
all programmatically.
I'll add the Fanlinc "Fan" control to the to-do list.
Dave.
