I tried gg's suggestion as well as starting PH using the Task Scheduler at Startup and while that did not 'solve the problem', it did have an interesting result. Using both of these methods, Task Manager indicated that pwrhome.exe was running but in both cases, there was no activity on the monitor.

For the present, unmanaged reboots and therefore PH unstarts are very rare since I have the newly built PC using newly installed Win 7 and running only PH and a MySQL server powered by a UPS and with automatic system updates turned off.

Having exhausted everyone's good ideas, I am going to leave the problem sit and revisit it when PH 2.1.5 arrives, the Sun completes its magnetic pole reversal or we get another Service Pack for Win 7.

Thanks to Dave, Beachbum/Pete, gg, and smarty/Steve.

Since you're getting messages that PH is already running using these methods, I would check and make sure that you don't have PH setup as a service.

We'll see if 2.1.5 fares any better since it will be using a new version of Adaptive Server Anywhere.

 Dave.

I hate to bring my mysterious problem up after a year and a half but it has never gone away. As I said in my last message, I have been ignoring the problem as I have stopped automatic updates with their attendant reboots and have a UPS on the PC. I am only bring this back in anticipation of moving to Windows 10 with its 'forced' updates. BTW: I have one of my PCs running Windows 10 and after a certain amount of futzing around I am happy with it. Back to the boot problem. I am now on 2.1.5c and have exactly the same issue. Automatic startup fails every time but if manually started immediately after the boot up, it runs every time. I have moved the DB back to its standard location and adjusted the .ini file which is now totally standard. This will be tricky to diagnose as it occurs during the boot process itself where remote connections and screen shots will not work. I can make a video of the screen and put it on YouTube and that would work. When we went through this before, it seemed to be a unique situation. Again, the PC is very standard with only PH and MySQL server running. Thoughts are welcome.

          Another thought:

When you lunch PH, how do you do that? Maybe you're launching it from outside the PH directory. Have you tried in your launching file:

 cd\powerhome
 start pwrhome.exe

Perhaps it makes a difference. I don't know, but it's something to try.

Another idea is to put a "pause" in your script, and run it manually, and see if you're getting any errors.

Im going to be looking into this for the upcoming full
release version. Not exactly sure what I'll come up
with but Im think of adding an option or rather that
allows for a delayed start. Im also looking at
creating a separate "monitoring" program that might be
 able to handle this.

I'll provide more details when I get to that point of
 development.

 Dave.

gg's suggestion of a task scheduler triggered batch file did work with a one minute delay! The PC is set to restart if the UPS runs down so I should have a good system when AC is back.
