Hello members
I'm trying to set up PH2 with my simply automated usb PIM. I'm at a lost on how to configure using the wizard. Upstart is running and working. I would like to know if the USB PIM will work with PH2. I have found old post that identify issues with the USB and suggest using the serial (not the option Im looking for).
During the wizard setup, Im asked for COM port,network ID,unit ID, and password. I'm assuming these values come from UPSTART but I do not know where. Thanks for the help

USB PIM will work fine with PowerHome, you just have to install the drivers so that the PIM has a virtual serial port.
The first thing I would do is disconnect the USB PIM from the PowerHome PC. Copy your Upstart configuration files to a safe location and uninstall UpStart (sometimes the UpStart install prevents the USB PIM drivers from properly recognizing the PIM).
Next in Windows Explorer, navigate to the USB PIM drivers directory which is default installed to C:\powerhome\Drivers\PLM-U and PIM-U USB Drivers\USB Drivers. Execute the CDM20802_Setup.exe program. After the drivers are installed, plugin your USB PIM (do not reinstall UpStart yet). Verify that your PIM has received a virtual serial port in Device Manager under COM Ports (note the COM port assigned). If all is good, you can reinstall UpStart and copy your config files back.
In PowerHome, skip the Wizard and go straight to the PowerHome Explorer. Navigate the treeview to PowerHome->Setup->Controllers. On the blank line (if you don't have a blank line right-click and select insert), enter an appropriate ID for the controller. Something like "UPB" or "PIM" should do. Select "UPB PIM" for your controller type. Click the "Settings" button. In the popup window, set the COM port to the number you noted earlier from Device Manager. Set your network ID to the value you originally assigned to your PIM within UpStart. Click "Done" and then close the PowerHome Explorer. Restart PowerHome. Verify in Help->About->Controllers that your PIM is recognized and connected.
With that working, you're now ready to import your UpStart configuration. Launch PowerHome Explorer and navigate to PowerHome->Devices->UPB-UpStart. From this screen you can launch UpStart (without it interfering with PH) and import saved configuration file.

Dave thank you for the reply.
I have installed the trial version of PH 2.1b an do not see
the usb pim driver directory. I have searched my entire
drive for CDM20802_setup.exe and have come up with nothing.
I feel I must be doing something wrong following your
detailed instructions. Help

The directory structure is
c:\powerhome\Drivers\PLM-U and PIM-U USB Drivers\USB Drivers
I have 2.1.4 installed on top of 2.1b

The directory c:\powerhome\Drivers\PLM-U and PIM-U USB Drivers\USB Drivers does not exist on my Win7 Enterprise 32 bit box after installing the trial version of PH2
I'm still trying to get my USB PIM to work. I have noticed in "Device Manager" that the drivers for the PIM have been loaded under Human Interface Devices. Anymore suggestions? thanks

Upgrade to beta version 2.1.2 available on the forum here http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2723&PN= 1 and then unzip the 2.1.4 patch on top of it from here: http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2723&PN= 5.

Still to luck. I have installed CDM20802_Setup.exe as instructed above, however my USB PIM is not identified by PH
When the PIM is plugged in, I see that in Device Manager a USB to Serial driver is temporary listed under Ports (com & lpt) however once driver installation is completed the device is listed under Human Interface Devices - USB Input Device. It does not appear to be assigned a COM port that I can tell. When checking driver location, under the Device Manger, I do see "port 0002 and "Hub 0001". I'm not sure what that means.
I'm assuming I should see the PIM in the Device Manager under Ports (Com & LPT)- USB to Serial. I do not. Like I stated above, I do find it among the other Human Interface Devices (ie, usb keyboard and usb mouse).
I'm open to more help and suggestions, thank you.

Sorry to take so long getting back...
After a bit of research and contacting Simply Automated, it appears that their version of the USB PIM does NOT create a virtual serial port and only exists as a HID device (which PowerHome doesnt support). The PCS version of the USB PIM does not have this issue.
I was also unable to get any kind of protocol or documentation on how to communicate with the HID interface so it doesnt look like I'll be able to add support for this device anytime soon.
Sorry for the bad news and I'll get to work on updating the website to note the incompatibility.
