Hey everyone, I have a problem and need some help. For the last 5 years my entire home has been using SwitchLinc 2476D 600 Watt dimmers. Recently one of them went bad and I had to change it. The 2476 were out of stock so I bought the upgraded replacement which is the 2477D (dual band).

I am able to auto configure it and Powerhome will find the device by device id. The problem that I am having is that I am unable to control the light with any commands to turn it on or off. I don't have any PLC=5's at all, just 3's and 4's. Every other device works.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

TIA
Dave

Check links to PLM as controller and/or responder

Those are all setup and nothing. I factor reset the switch and still nothing. No errors in the PCL log.

What are you using as your interface? A PLM or PLC? The PLC will not support the commands necessary for you new switch. I found this out the hard way myself.

I am using the 2414U which is the USB controller (PLC). What is the reason for it not to work? It broadcasts and is able to be picked in setup mode with no problems at all.

SmartLabs/Smarthome has updated the Insteon protocol to I2CS. Not important what that stands for as much as devices shipped after March 2012 are likely I2CS with every device being shipped now being I2CS. These devices require Extended commands to manage the link database. You need 2.1.4 + the I2CS Zip.

Also the old 2414 PLC does not support Extended commands. Along with updating the PH2 software a PLM, either 2413S or 2413U will be needed. These are the only PLM variants now being sold.

Lee! This is perfect and just what I was looking for. THANK YOU! I know my equipment is pretty dated but this helps a ton!! I will compare the prices between trying to find an older switch or just upgrading the PLM which seems to be the way to go so I can avoid this problem in the future.

Do you know where I can download the 2.1.4 + the I2CS Zip file?

Go to this link for 2.1.2.   It is many pages long but has a link to 2.1.4 (to be installed on top of 2.1.2). There is also a link to the I2CS Zip file which is unzipped into 2.1.4. The Zip file has only two files but these have the I2CS support.

It may not be possible to obtain a non-I2CS device. All the devices coming from Smarthome today have I2CS firmware including the 2476D when it is back in stock.

I am actually almost done with the upgrade. I just purchased the new PLM. All of the switches I have in the house are 2476D's, I was just unable to find one in stock anywhere so opted for the 2477D. I should be good right once I get the new PLM tomorrow?

All of your old switches will work just fine with the new PLM. Once you get that you will be just fine.
