Hello all, I am brand new to the home automation scene but I do want to learn how to set up my home. I am an avid do it yourselfer from construction through electronics. Based on my budget and reviews this software seemed to be the best for what I am looking for...now my question(s).

I have a growing home theater setup including a denon reciever (AVR-3312), Mitsubishi DLP 6575 (I think that's the model number), Panasonic blue-ray player, x-box 360, and cox cable box. I would like to utilize this software to control all of the a/v equipment along with lighting, hvac, our security system, and window shades to start. Depending on how that goes maybe even the garage door, pool, etc.

To start with lighting and a/v does anyone have a shopping list they have compiled that has worked for them? Any set-up tutorials/instructions would also be hugely helpful. My biggest struggle is programming. I am still foggy on this subject, at least if I have to write my own code... I am no computer guy.

 Thank you for your help,

Well this is a bummer... nobody has attempted this where they have a list of equipment?

Most all of our setups have evolved over many years. I started out with X10 and moved to Insteon. A lot of others started the same, but, went with UPB, or, something else.

Have you researched and chosen a technology yet?

The A/V can be controlled by one of the many IR systems out there. The USB/UIRT is what I use and is common.
