Dave,
In the beta version of PowerHome, only the Control Center wizard is available (in process of being re-written). However, the normal interface is fully functional.
With PowerHome open, launch the PowerHome Explorer by going to menu Maintenance->PowerHome Explorer or by pressing the "Magnifying glass" icon on the toolbar. Navigate in the left hand tree view to PowerHome|Setup|Controllers. In the right-hand detail view, enter an appropriate ID (keep ID's short but descriptive) such as INSTEON or PLM. Choose a controller type of "Insteon PLM" for the 2413U. Press the "Settings" button to open up an additional configuration window. Make sure that the COM port is set to the virtual COM port that is created by the Insteon PLM (you can verify this from Windows Device Manager). Press ok to exit. Back at the Explorer window, press "F5" to save your changes. Since you made changes to the "Setup" section of PH Explorer, you'll need to restart or "reinit" PowerHome for the changes to take effect. Once you do this, your PLM controller should be connected.
With your controller connected and since you're using Insteon, you should be able to next proceed to the Insteon Explorer (under the Maintenance menu or the "Insteon" power icon on the toolbar) to continue adding your devices.
Dave.

Dave,
Thanks a lot. Did use Explorer option and had to change port, then worked fine. Did not realize I had bought a beta version from SmartHome. Have used HomeSeer in the past. Now have to learn a new application.

Dave,
Glad to hear that you got it going. The SmartHome disc includes both the production release (2.1b) and the beta (2.1.5a). Version 2.1b includes the wizards but does not have support for the newer I2CS Insteon protocol. The beta version has the I2CS support and alot of other new enhancements which will all be rolled up into a production release when complete.
If you've got mainly older Insteon devices that don't require the I2CS protocol, then you could install the 2.1b version. I think most users will recommend the beta though as its using the latest technologies which makes for a smoother experience.
Dave.

Crock,
The COM port for the PLM would usually be different
for each person based upon their Windows hardware and
OS.
The best way to determine the proper port would be to
open Windows Device manager and look under COM ports.
The PLM "COM" port for a USB PLM should have a listing
of "USB Serial Port (COMXX)" where XX is the port
number you should use for setting up PowerHome.
Hope this helps,
Dave.
