I've been trying to adequately control my media pc via powerhome for some time. It used to not be too bad when I was running PH on the same machine as I could just use key presses (see Formulas to control WMP) but now that PH has it's own machine that no longer worked. Besides, the truth was that it never worked quickly enough.

Now I've found a WMP plug in that basically runs it's own web server. It looks like the complete design called for a pretty rich feedvack interface (via kys embedded in the html files - ala PH's psp), but I can't get any of that to work under Vista (all pages just come back empty). However all the controling functions work great.

Since my PH interface is via a web page (actually an hta - see How to pass parameters from a psp page?) I just have the play / pause / next / previous buttons load a hidden iframe with the URL to my media machine so something like "http://mediamachine:81/WMPRemote.vsf?action=play". This works extermely well.

Unfortuneately the plug in is an early beta that looks like it's been dropped - no change in almost 2 years. I've tried to contact the author to see if he might be interested in releasing the code as an open source project, but so far no reply.

I found the plug in on this thread in a PSP forum, QJ.net. The thread is mostly about iTunes, but there is the specific WMP plugin mentioned / attached on page 14 about half way down - the author is "K7M". A direct link to the plugin zip file is: WMPPlugin_beta01.zip. Read the rest of the thread for documentation or download one of the original zip files.

I use this successfully on a Vista Ultimate machine with both Vista MCE and WMP 11. I'm not sure if the display issues I mention above are due to the fact that this was only a beta piece of software, or because I am using this on Vista with MCE.

FYI - To get the currently playing song I use Brandon Fuller's Now Playing plugin.

I'd love to hear anyone else's solution for controls WMP / MCE. And no, I'm not going to change to WinAmp

Don't know if this is what you're looking for.

xPL MCE

Dave wrote an xPL plugin for PH. I've been trying to make it work with WinAmp. However with my limited programming experience I haven't been able to yet. Of course that's what makes HA fun!

(snip)Just got it working.
