Dave-
I'm in a big pile of doo doo and stuck.
A Windows 10 update 2 weeks ago caused a massive disk
corruption that trashed just about everything on my Home
Automation (PH) Computer.
Worse I have been lazy in checking my backup program and
it turns out it wasn't working for about a year.
Trying to get PH2.2eta3.3 going from year old files. Got
it all reloaded but upon starting PH an immediate error
is generated stating "An error occurred while attempting
to open COM port 6 on Insteon PLM controller -PLM.
Attempting to restart controller (2 of 5)..."
I tried all 6 ports (1-6) but no luck. Used to be port 3
but not now.
Tried a lot of things but nothing worked. Then saw a
USB-UIRT listed in Other Devices in Computer device
Manager. Checking properties for that device states
"Driver for this device not installed. (Code 28)"
I have no drivers on my computer so wondering if there is
a special driver for the Smart Home 2448A7 dongle PLM
Controller. !!!
If so, do you have a copy of the driver I can grab from
you, or if not, any idea of how I can get one.
If I'm not on the right track, please advise. It is the
only logical reason so far I can think of.

Ken,
Very sorry to hear about your data loss. I know exactly how you feel after losing months of development work that one time. I am completely paranoid about backups now. I
have a M365 Family account which gives me 6 1TB OneDrive instances. I make daily backups to 4 of those 1TB drives using 2 different backup programs (Arq and Duplicati). I
also have a Seagate 5TB USB drive on a remote server that I also make two nightly backups to. And then, when I get a chance, I take backups (usually monthly) to two
different USB SSD drives, one of which goes with me everywhere I go. Definiately paranoid .
Anyways, to resolve your current problem, did you actually do an install of 2.2beta3 and then unzip the 2.2beta3-3 files on top of it? If so, it should have installed all
the necessary drivers for the USB-UIRT and the PLM. It sounds like that did not happen though. If that didnt happen, I worry that the DLL and ActiveX registrations that
are done in the install may have failed as well.
To manually install the drivers, look into your c:\powerhome\drivers directory. You should see 4 subdirectories, one of which is the FTDI drivers for virtual serial ports
based upon the FTDI chipset (such as the 2448A7 dongle and the PLM-U's).
Hope this helps,
Dave.

Ha. Got it.
Screen Captured the Device Manager window of USB connections and then unplugged the PLM Dongle and noted the DvcMngr differences and discovered I was trying to Update the driver for the USB-UIRT dongle (which takes special handling).
Once I clicked on the correct PLM Dongle and Updated I was OK.
Then went on to load the special USB-UIRT drivers too, and I am now a happy camper, except the web Setup is broken and crashes PH.
Hoping for an answer to that issue with the posting I just put in the Forum.
