Hi Guys,
I have a RemoteLinc2 that I need to link to lamp modules. The problem is that the modules I need to link to are InLineLincs inside light fixtures located close to the peak of my vaulted ceiling. Being basically lazy I really don't want to have to bring in the big ladder, and unmount (dismount?) the fixtures just so I can push a silly button. I've tried linking through PH with only partial success. Here's what I've done: Since the RemoteLinc2 is not in the PH devices database I've chosen RemoteLinc as the device type. I couldn't get PH to "Discover" the 2444A2 so I manually created the device. I've been able to manually link using 2444A2 groups 2 and 3. The problem is that the 2444A2 is in the 8 button mode (which I want) and group 2 links to button a (top, left) and group 3 links to button d (second row, right). I've been unable to determine how to link to buttons c and d. I haven't tried the lower four buttons as they will be for future use. I know I'm probably missing something stupid, but I am just an Insteon newbie Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Dean

The RemoteLinc2 has an unusual Group/Button relationship.
Button
A - Group 2
B - Group 1
C - Group 4
D - Group 3
E - Group 6
F - Group 5
G - Group 8
H - Group 7
If these are very new RemoteLinc2 devices they may be I2CS devices. If it is an I2CS device 2.1.4 has to be installed with the I2CS Zip file unzip on top of 2.1.4.
Was not sure if you defined a new ‘Type’ for the RL2. If so define it as having 8 Groups so all the buttons can be linked.
Should not need to use the InLineLinc set button. Will need to put the RL2 into manual linking mode with its Set button before creating the links.

Thanks Lee! I appreciate the help. Where does one go to find such info, besides here? I've scoured owners manuals and Smarthome's site and have not seen this kind of info. You may recall that I also have an Insteon Thermostat that you helped me with several weeks ago. I'd love to have a listing of the commands for it but have not been able to find one. Is this kind of info something that SH keeps as a deep, dark secret for some reason?

The information may be available with paid Developer Subscription ($199?). Not absolutely sure about the Group/Button relationship of the RL2 as I do not have a Developer Subscription because of the NDA requirement.
I think the RL2 situation came to light when the RL2 first came out. There was speculation the odd Group number usage had its origin in the 4 Scene model but SmartLabs never publically talks about design decisions.
The Developer Subscription should give you access to the thermostat commands. HouseLinc is now free so you might get some information by installing HouseLinc and see what commands it issues with the thermostats.
