Mike,
This is definately not good. I had hoped with the latest SDM and beta testing that I had that we would get 3 to 5 days .
How does it crash? Does PowerHome give an error? Someone else has a problem where the SDM/PowerHome just stops processing commands and the CPU goes to 100%. Your problem is different right?
This last version has code to try to detect when the SDM has crashed/stopped running and attempts to recover and relaunch the SDM. Is this not happening?
Let me know some details on the type of crash (I havent had a problem lately so I cant test my auto recover code). If the SDM is popping up it's application error window, let me know the exact title so I can try to incorporate this into my auto recovery process.
Thanks,
Dave.

It throws up a splash screen that says there was an exception error. Lots of info and the option to quit or restart. PowereHome usually has an error screen behind the SDM3 screen. I usually click "restart application" on the SDM error screen and PowerHome recovers but it does not happen by itself.

Before PowerHome version 1.03.4.7, it would have a critial error screen. With this new version, it should not have a critical error screen but should popup a timed message saying that it could not communicate with the SDM (and insert a message in the eventlog). Does this version still give you a critical error or is it just the timed message?
The next time it pops up, can you give me the title of the SDM error window? Also, PowerHome has a little tool called "Window Spy" under the maintenance window. Could you open this and move the mouse over the title of the SDM error window and give me the classname? I'll use this to fine tune the auto recover so even though we cant make the SDM more reliable we can minimize the inconvenience.
Thanks,
Dave.

It just popped up but I can't access in menu items in PowerHome so I can't get to Menu Spy.
The window title is SDM3.exe. The description is "An error occurred in this application. There are 8 tabs labled general, call stacks, modules, processes, hardware, cpu regs, stack dump, and disasm.
exception class = EAccess Violation
violation address = 00402F0E
I tried to forward the bug report to you... let me know if you get it.

Mike,
Got the bug report. Anytime this happens, I would also forward it to SmartLabs. Hopefully it will help them to fix the problem. I looked through it and nothing popped out at me. Free Memory was maybe a little low and 2.2 GB free on the hard drive didnt seem like much (I always start freaking out if I have less than 15 gig free. I must have a mental defect ).
So, the complete title of the Window is "SDM3.exe" without the quotes? Also, once the window appears, can it be closed by pressing "Alt-F4"?
I'll start making changes to the auto recover code. I know Ive got it working if you just exit the SDM or if crashes without popping up the Error Window. I'll try to add additional code to work around when the window is opened.
Dave.

Fasttimes,
Try the latest SDM version 191. You can download it here: http://www.power-home.com/download/sdm191.zip.
Rename or delete the old SmartHome directory beneath PowerHome and unzip this file to replace it.
Let me know,
Dave.
