I've been trying to "tune" the reliability of my Insteon network. Looking for sources of noise, looking for weak signals, etc. I have two main panels in my house. I have a splitting box right below the meter with just connections in it, no breakers, that feed the two main panels. Then I have another two sub-panels off the one main. So in some cases, the signals have a long way to go in addition to a phase crossing. Anyway, for the most part I've been able to get the event03's to two or less with the following two exceptions:

Two SwitchLinc Dimmers that are on the load side of GFCI's.

Two ControlLincs. The ControlLinc's almost always come in at 3 Event03's.

So my question is, are others finding that ControlLinc's are "hard of hearing", or do I need to do some more work on my network?

Tom

While for years I had problems with X-10 communications even after installing many filters, phase coupler etc, I have not had ANY communication problems with insteon. I have 40+ insteon devices installed, most for almost a year.

Are either of your ControlLinc's connected to a power strip? If so, I have heard that that is a problem for the ControlLinc's in particular. Have you tried the ControlLinc's in other locations to see if they have behave better?

No power strips. The one is plugged straight into the wall and the other is plugged through the uncontrolled outlet on a LampLinc. Oddly, that particular LampLinc is the best communicating device in the house with an average of 1.25 event03's. Both ControlLinc's are sitting at an average of exactly 3 event03's. They always are at 3...

Just seemed an odd coincidence.

Tom,

Even with 3 event03's, that's still pretty good communications. Some of my worse offenders average around 4.

However, I agree with you. My worst offender is my single ControLinc. No matter where I plug it in, it always has the worst communication. Mine ControLinc is a very early model from the developers kit, so don't know if that makes a difference or not. If you read the SDM enhancements list, I know they've made changes specifically to address PING commands returning reliably on ControLincs so you may be onto something there where ControLincs are just a little hard of hearing .

Dave.
