I had what I thought was a bad 2414s (Serial PLC) It had worked for weeks, began the following log in the SDM shortly after I started getting into Power-Home. They sent me a new 2414s, it started up fine, I cleared the PLC and downloaded the Power-home core. The PLC worked for one day, and then would no longer connedt, giving the same error as previous shown below.
The SDM started alone does not function either, see log below.
A hard reset did not help. Is there a possible incompatiblity with Powerhome core/timerapp and 2414s?
On smarthome.com the timerapp is not listed as a download for the 2414s only the 2414u.
Any thoughts/ideas appreciated, I am sending yet another PLC back and waiting....... for a new one.

I've not had many issues with Insteon, so my troubleshooting experience is not yet developed.
Someone will chime in soon.

Deckhardt,
Definately not a stupid question .
The Timercoreapp12.slb (standard timercoreapp from SmartHome with no changes needed to work with PowerHome) is intended for both the Serial and USB versions of the PLC.
In my own setup, I use the 2414S as Ive found it to be more reliable than the USB version and Ive had it running with the timercoreapp12 without any problems. Ive only been up currently 13 days (I take PowerHome down alot to load and test new versions), but that is with background polling and has been without incident.
It doesnt seem likely, but I guess it's possible that the second PLC has gone bad as well. One thing about my PLC is that it's firmware is 2.12 instead of the later 2.13. I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but is one thing Ive noticed.
Dave.

Ok, got yet another 2414S, didn't even start Power-Home, just the SDM from the Powerhome Smartlabs directory, Same darn error right out of the box.

set up a terminal session in hyper terminal and check for loopback on the com port on the pc alone and then with the PLC cable plugged in (only to the PC). You could also check the cable from end to end using a multimeter. You will need to get the pin configuration of the cable though. It might also come with the PLC in the manual or documentation.
A loopback will confirm that the com port and the com port and cable are good.

Im with Gatchel and would probably suspect a bad cable or perhaps something wrong with the COM port. Do you have another PC that you can install just the SDM on to test with? I would also perhaps try a different version of SDM to just rule that out as well.
Are you sure that the SDM is set to the proper COM port? If you type "getport" in the SDM control window, do you get back the proper port setting? If not, try typing in "port=COM??" where ?? is the correct port number.
Dave.

They're sending me a USB unit, It has to be an issue with my com port, nothing else makes sense.
I'll let you know when I get my 2414U in about a week. DejaVu

Got my 2414U, a couple of things seem a little funky as far as adding new links etc. but I am going to assume it is me for now.
Only 7 days left on my trial extension though...

Deckhardt, did you get my email concerning your trial extension? If not, just email me your reg number and I'll generate you an extension key.
Dave.
