G'day everyone-

I'm a productions engineer in washington dc. I'm going to use a computer
in the head end of a sound system system at a summer camp(mac or PC-
doesn't madder). I want to use powerhome to make an action occur via
remote control.

I have been contracted to install a sound system at a summer camp. The
directors say it must meet the following criteria:

~An Mp3 file needs to play each morning at 7:45 (wake-up bell)
~I need a "lunch is ready" button, something that is easily accessible and
a physical switch (or touchscreen button). it should trigger an mp3 file to
play
~a wireless keyfob/garage door opener type device needs to trigger the
computer to play yet another computer file. It'll be used when the bus is
ready to leave (within 100' of computer)

what would I need to do to make this work??

Thanks!!

Skiman, welcome to PowerHome!

What you wish to accomplish is easily doable.

If you're going to use PowerHome, you'll need a Windows machine rather than a Mac. For hardware, I would get a W800RF32A (RF X10 receiver) and either an X10 RF keyfob remote or an X10 palmpad. For software, other than PowerHome, all you would need would be Winamp.

PowerHome would then have a timed event that fires at 0745 to control Winamp to play the MP3 file. You could create a Control Center tab within PowerHome for large "touchscreen" capable buttons or simply using the mouse. These buttons would again control Winamp to play the appropriate MP3 file. The W800RF32A would connect to the PC via a serial port and with a decent antenna (included with the W800RF32A), you should be able to react to a signal from either of the wireless RF remotes to fire a PowerHome trigger and again control Winamp or perform some other action.

Of course, the PC would need an appropriate sound card that you would need to interface with the headend sound system.

Hope this helps,

Dave.
