All,
Check out the new PowerHome Wiki located here: http://www.power-home.info/wiki.
Feel free to add/edit or give me ideas on what you'd like for me to contribute. Ive just started it with the PowerHome features and FAQ to familiarize myself with a wiki (used them, never contributed before ) and it's really easy.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Dave.

I think this will be great once everyone starts putting their hints and tips in there!

Upload capability is now enabled . Remember, if anyone would like to have edit access to the wiki, just drop me an email with your desired username and an email address. I'll create the account for you, you'll get an email with a random password, and you can then login and change it.
Dave.

So I was on the Wiki today, wanting to try and give back a little. I have an account there already, registered it before Dave had to cut them off.
Anyway, those things don't make a lot of sense to me, but either I don't have access to add things, or I'm totally not understanding!
Anyway, I created a help file for the Call ID plugin. I would appreciate it if someone goes through it and makes sure it is all correct, and if not, let me know what needs to be fixed up.
you can get to it here http://seburn.ca/home-automation/caller-id.html
Thanks,
Brian
Edit: March,10,2008 - This help file now on the PowerHome Wiki

Looks good Brian. May have a little wordy problem with "Announce the caller information (provided you have previously the Speech."

Gatdgets, I moved your wiki topic to a new title "CID Plugin Tutorial" it was under the generic title of "PowerHome" which I did not think you expected to have it saved under.... It stopped at the space in your original title.
I am just trying to help Dave with a little house keeping so the new Wiki we asked for is not more of a burden to him...

No problem Todd... that was my first time putting anything on a wiki, that was a chore in itself! :-)

Well Keep up the good work, that was a real nice write up!
What I did to add stuff was to first search for a topic and then add it from the page where it tells me it does not exist...

I think we need a list of items people want on the WIKI... (maybe a seperate section on the forum where each topic can duscuss each item?)
I am working on a writeup for Elk-PH setup.
I also think we need detailed info on each PH command
and function of PH

I am reviving the WIKI topic for the "new users" we all know PH2 will bring them out of the woodwork... I have been working a bit on it and will continue to as time permits... Boy o boy... this having a baby on the way is taking too much of my free time.

The "Roadmap 2013" Thread began discussion of the PowerHome wiki, so I am resurrecting
this thread to keep threads on topic.
I have a suggestion for the top level of the wiki. Categories that match each of the
PowerHome menus: File, Edit (maybe not needed), Maintenance, Control, Macros, Voice,
Reports (Window and Help not needed). We could place people in charge of each category
(Easy for me to say because I don't think I would be the right guy for any of them).
We would probably want some specific "programming" categories as well.
Anyway, this is just a suggestion, meant to get our minds thinking about the best way
to approach the wiki. I don't have an emotional attachment to doing it this way, but I
do want people to start thinking about how the best way to do this would be.
By the way, these are the chapters in the current PH Users Guide
Introduction
System Startup
PowerHome Basics
PowerHome Explorer
Control Center
Variable Substitution
Formulas
Execution Queue
System Variables
Control Center Tabs
Timed Events
Triggers
Send Keys
Macros
X-10
IR
Discs
Slots
Playlists
Video
Voice
X-10 Status Screen
Event Log
Palm Pad
Discs Reports
PSP (PowerHome Server Pages)
Socket Server
Windows Messaging
WSH (Windows Script Host)
Email Control
Virtual X-10
And the appendixes are
Controllers
Database Structure
Last Minute Updates
Changelog

I am willing to help as well.
An entire rewrite of the manual is very ambitious. I had
helped Dave in 2008 with the quick start guide and the
elk/powerhome guide. It took quite a bit of time
especially for Dave.
The wiki was started subsequently but I recall it was
hard to administer for Dave because open access resulted
in spam entries (or something like that) and it took a
lot of Dave's time to straighten out.
I was thinking that perhaps the project should start
small with separate practical how-tos or primers
addressing a particular topic. Such as how-to use the
new insteon devices i.e. how to link them to the existing
version of PH; how to control a receiver using PH and
sendsocketserver; How to use your telephone and PH (CID
pluggin integration). I'm sure anyone could think of 50
more (Temperature monitoring and PH, Using your energy
meter and PH, etc., etc).
The forums have much of this information and if they were
mined an put in a wiki (or something similar) I think
that would be a good start. Then a complete manual
rewrite could be undertaken, perhaps integrating the
howtos as examples.
Just a thought.
Noel
