I am just getting started into an automation system. I will be using PH, but i am having a hard time understanding which controller i need. I bought some x10 stuff and it came with HC60RX (serial) controller, they said it was compatible with cm11a. i am unable to get it work though, even with there own software.
I was thinking about using a USB x10 controller instead, but i am unsure which ones do what and are compatible with PH. I am not impressed with the x10 tech and will most likely want to upgrade to the insteon tech soon. I looked into the Powerlinc but i don't understand if theres one that does both or not.
I don't need one with memory i intend on having a dedicated computer to run it all the time.
Any suggestion would be great appreciated. thanks.

Welcome to PowerHome… I can offer my 2 cents worth. I have used both the USB PLC and the serial PLM and fine the PLM to be much better overall. With the PLC you have the inherent problematic SDM code supplied by Smarthome. The PLM does not use the code. PowerHome works great with either one. Both one handles X10 and Insteon protocols. Some of the other controllers work with X10 a little better but if you plan on migrating to Insteon as I did I fine the PLM to be very satisfying.
