I'm not sure where to put this post, nor if i should even be posting this in here... but i just wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem too. When I try to reboot my computer or turn off my computer the computer just sits there like i didn't tell it to do anything. When i start closing the applications one by one nothing happens until i right click on the "T" and select "exit smarthome Device manager" Then the computer shuts down. Even if i select "Exit power home" within the program it doesn't shut the smarthome device manager down. Any idea's....

Thanks,
Rob

I know the answer to this one.

It's Smarthome's SDM program, not PowerHome. Used to happen to me (and others) all the time until I switched to the PLM in place of the PLC.

The PLM doesn't need the SDM program.

Thanks Nadler!!
So to clarify (and to make it MORE obvious that im a newbie ) You HAVE to use SDM to interact Powerhome to the PLC but you do NOT require it to communicate with the PLM. So whats the difference between the PLM and the PLC? (other than serial vs usb) and i thought the latest version of PH doesn't support PLM's.

Thanks again,
Rob

My understanding is that the SDM is required for the PLC but not the PLM.

The alpha version of PH supports the PLM. I've been using the alpha version for quite sometime and it works well on my set up.

The PLC has a USB and a serial version. The PLM is serial only (I think).

There are a number of differences (one being the PLM doesn't require SDM) and there is no built in downloadability with the PLM. You can find out details on Smarthome's website. I'm no expert.

there's a freeware program out there called process.exe that can be used to kill processes from the command line. I have a "shutdown" shortcut that first has these commands...

c:\util\process.exe -k pwrhome.exe
doze 5
c:\util\process.exe -k SDM3.exe
doze 3

doze is another freeware program that waits a specified # of seconds. looks like a hack, but works very reliably.
