So I've gotten stuck on finishing my powerhome interface - having a newborn around seems to suck up all my time! Life is good...

Anyway I always meant to post a final view when I was "done". Since I don't seem to be getting any closer to being done I'm going to go ahead and post where I am.

Here's my web "port" of my home control Screen

It is optimized for display on the Nokia 770 (which I use for a wall controller). It works best with Opera 8 (and above), and sort of works with IE (6 and 7). The ajaxy updateing does not work at all with Firefox. I use this with my 770 by remote desktoping into my server which runs Opera in full screen kiosk mode.

Almost everything on my port works - except the calendar data has been scrubed, I deleted all my contacts, and some data is static (the calendar, temperature, and weather station - someday I'll echo these from the house). Also, obviously, the controls do not really effect my house - the music transport, lights, etc - all bogus (I can control these via email though...)

Usage: Change screens by clicking on the "home" icon in the upper left corner. Every piece of data on the screen can be drilled down into - just click on it!

Top of all screens: Current page (icon in top left corner), currently playing, and transport controls (just click on the black bar - they'll pop up). None of this data is live (except the time when the now playing data times out)

I'll discuss each screen in replies to this post - hope this is usefull or interesting to someone...

The home screen

This is a general overview of the house and what is going on. Unless "pinned" all screens revert to this after a minute (you pin a screen by double clicking on it's icon or seclecting the same screen from the screen list - the home screen cannot be pinned)

From left to right:

  • Current traffic - click for larger map and any alerts

  • Next few bus departures - busses that my wife or I might take - click for more information and other locations

  • Next 1 to 3 days of my schedule and weather forcast - number displayed depends on length - click for schedule and forcast details - the schedule is faked for the web

  • Following five days of weather forcast icons - click for schedule and forcast details - schedule is faked for the web

  • House Temperatures - click for additional locations and historical date - These are faked for the web

  • House weather conditions - click for a drop down list of other weather views: home current (faked), home graph (faked), lake union, and lake washington

  • Current air quality alerts (burn bans, etc) - click for more details

  • Moon and time - click for almanac including tides and moon/sun rise/set, next full moon, etc

Unless otherwise noted everything on this page is live

The Music screen

Select music to be played - there are various search options. The left column shows a list of artist - clicking on any artist brings up a list of albums (albumn view doesn't work on the web).

Top row: "Play All" starts playing all 680 artists; Radio shows a list of radio stations that we listed to; History shows the last 30 almbums played (faked for the web)

Black bar: Shows the number of matches (or total artist count in jump mode). In Search mode clicking on the black bar toggles between artist search (match on artist name only) and text search (matches on artist or album names)

In jump mode the number keys jump to the specified character (E.g. clicking on '5' jumps to "Jack Johnson") - clicking on the same key rotates through each character, so repetitively clicking on '5' jumps to J, then K, then L, then 5.

In search mode the number keys create a regular expression (think A9 on a cell phone). First key does nothing, each key afterwards automatically filters. So entering 2,6 results in a search for "[ABC2][MNO6]" which matches "AM", "AN", "BA", "CO", etc
Up / down arrows page through the results - note that fading page count

Search mode - toggles between jump and search mode

clicking on the black bar at the top of the screen brings up transport controls (play, pause, stop, next, etc) - this works from any screen

Nothing on this page is live - you can't pick the music I'm listening to right now

The Control / Schedule Screen

This screen displays the status of and allows the control of all the various controlable things in the house (lighting, fan, heater, irrigation, etc)

Clicking on an ON/OFF toggles it.

Clicking on a schedule (listed as "Simulated" on the web) brings up the scheduler.

Clicking on Page goes to additional room pages (there are currently two).

Clicking on the Mode button toggles between Away and Home for auto scheduling

Nothing on this page is live

The Contacts Screen

I don't even have any fake contacts loaded so this is pretty boring on the web. In real life it functions very similarly to the music page. Clicking on any contact gives a complete view of any details.

Someday I'll try to mock up some contacts so this can be played with.

Note that in real life the contact information is sucked out of outlook which automatically syncs with my phone - so the list is always up to date.

The Perpetual Calendar Screen

This shows my long range calnedar. This data is all scrubbed to not show any real data.

Clicking on the month title brings you back to the current month.

I load three months worth of schedules at a time - these are pulled from outlook.

Very impressive! I'm sure you'll get lots of questions. Want to do one for an iPhone next?

The Recipies Screen

The control was designed to hang in the kitchen - so I also have some of my favorite recipies listed. Behavior is pretty much the same as the music screen in search mode. Searches happen automatically as letters are entered - and matches are on the recipie title or ingredients.

This was always supposed to integrate with the list sceen - so you could look at a recipie and add to your shopping list. I've never impleneted that, so this is basically just a recipie viewer.

Note that not all the recipie files are loaded - so you might see some 404s
