I was wondering... What are the advantages or disadvantages to using a USB PLC vs a Serial PLM? I am getting the impression that a PLC would operate as more of an embedded controller while a PLM is solely reliant on PowerHome being running for all of the higher functions like macros, triggers, and timed events. If you download the "Core Application" to a PLC does that also include the higher functions and a system would function as if PowerHome was running?

PLM runs faster. It supports 2000+ links compared to 417 with the PLC. Although not so important with the current Powerhome but probably in the future, the PLM supports Extended Insteon messages, the PLC does not. I have found the PLM to be more reliable than the PLC but that is just one man’s experience.

The PLC does support standalone Timers (no PC required once the Timers are defined) the PLM does not. I guess if Timers were the only automation used you could consider it as if Powerhome was running but PH can do much more with Timed Events than a PLC Timer can do.

EDIT: no macros or event based activity with a standalone PLC.
