Hi,
I am preparing to launch a home automation project and am in the planning phase as to which hardware to purchase. I am a professional programmer, and Powerhome seems the best tool to allow me to expand as I want.
I am leaning towards X10 as the base signal framework due to the cost and the abundance of resources available for extending the hardware. Some projects I have planned are personal recognition, room-by-room temperature monitoring (I have an old house with lots of drafts). I have seen examples of both of these combining the Arduino control board and X10, among others, and it seems that the X10 is the most accessible for these types of things - at least in finding tutorials and examples.
So, my first question seems simple, but I could not find a definitive answer. What do I need to both send and receive X-10 signals from my PC? Will a Firecracker suffice? Is there a generally accepted better alternative?
Thanks in advance.
