I am switching from x10 to insteon
(many of my qestions center around "linking" - I admit that I am not crystal clear on this yet )

questions:
1. I picked the 2414U selection in the setup wizard for devices to represent my 2413UH - seems to be working ok. Is this correct?
2. I have installed two 2443s. However my 2413UH (PLM) is only linked to one of them. Should it be linked to both?
3. Should my 2420M (motion detector) be linked to as many access points as possible or just one? Currently it is linked to one of the 2443s. I tried to link it to the PLM as well but it does not seem to have taken.. There were clicks and pops but it does not show in the linked list for the PLM just for one of the 2443s.

4. Should the 2413UH be in a wall socket on its own? Currently I have an x10 lamp module sitting on top of it. Can that interfere with stuff coming into it?

5. What device type should I pick for the 2443s? Currently they are showing up in the device list as "New Insteon Device Type".

I have created one macro to turn some existing x10 lights on and I have created one macro to respond to the 2420M and execute the x10 macro. That works too.

I am making progress and I am very impressed with what PowerHome can do. I would like to do things in as systematic a fashion as possible. I have a lot of units to install and un-install(x10).

You’re ok on the PLM. The AP doesn’t need to be linked but the Motion Sensor does if you want PH to respond to it. Just put the 2420M into setup mode and press the button on the PLM to link it. The PLM doesn’t need to be by itself BUT it does have to stay away from surge protectors and computer power supplies. I’m sure others will give you a lot more detail.
