Anyone have any success getting PowerHome to run on Windows Server 2008 R2? More specifically the Smarthome Device Manager? I can get PowerHome to run but sdm3.exe fails completely and without explanation.

UAC may need to be turned off. Furthermore, be sure it is running as administrator. You may need to set a compatibility option to get it to run properly.

No joy. Tried both of those before posting and again after you suggested them. I'm starting to think that replacing my 2003 server might not be in the cards right now.

I had the same Item some months ago when I got a 2008 server for testing purposes. I had 3 tests:
-powerhome has to run stable with Mapi (min. 1week)
-System processes may not cause PH to run unstable as a service.
-IIS with perl, ASP (.net) and PHP have to be installed and running on a multi-site server (+10 domains).
I was able to run PH next to IIS on seperate IP's but then my temperatures could not be read |(host headers messing up)
2008 has a system which backs up certain files daily and it did mess up PH's stability.
Mapi did not work (on this machine)
So I moved PH back to my Proliant Server on 2k3 server OS where it has been running continueasly for 4 months now.
Moving to 2008 is not an option IMHO.....

The concept of of not being able to run the latest server software on my new hardware is very depressing.
Oh well... I'm over it.
Where did I put my Windows Server 2003 R2 64bit disc?

...on second thought. I'm going to see if I can get Powerhome doing what I need in a VM first.

I had some time off around the holidays. In between bouts of massive non-productiveness, unless you consider leveling up in COD:Black Ops productive, I got PowerHome working and stable on Windows Server 2008 R2... kinda.
I cheated.
I have it running on a Oracle VirtualBox VM running Server 2003. So, actually it is running on a Server 2008 box, but technically, it's not. As always, what took hours to achieve took months to start.
BTW: I upgraded from a PLC to a USB Dual-Band PLM at the same time. Moving to a PLM is one of the best things I've done for my home automation system.

I have been running PH for several months on a Windows Home Server "Vail" system which is based on Windows Server 2008 R2.
I use a serial PLM and do not use Mapi. Everything has been very stable so far.

A friend of mine was able to run PowerHome on windows server 2008 R2. He had done that about two months ago without any problem. But I am not 100% sure regarding Smarthome Device manager. Anyway, I have decided to forward the link to him. I think he will be able to help us in this regard.

In retrospect, I think my initial problem with 2008 R2 was the SDM. If you're using a PLM, there might not be a problem at all.
However, I'm sticking with a virtualized server as it's much more flexible.
