So is there anyway for a newbie to hack the printer port in order to say just light up some LEDs? I was looking at the Velleman8000 but I'm cheap. Don't know too much about this concept just thought it would be cool to have some LEDs to indicate different things. But I have no idea how to "turn on" the output pins on the printer port.

reighnman,

I looked at the code for the K8000 controller and there isnt any way to trick the system into individually turning on/reading the various parallel port pins.

However, I could create a new generic parallel port controller that work with these raw pins. Give me some additional info and I'll get it on the list.

Dave.

Thanks for taking a look. I was hoping the K8000 might be the quick fix. But just as good to know it doesnt work before I waste a lot of time trying. What other info did you need? Basically this is what i want i had in mind... So there is 25ish pins on a printer port, some ground and then input and output pins... I really just wanted control over the 6-8 output pins because I think they have an output voltage of 5V so with that you could have some status LEDs or use a relay to control a motor or a light even. Seems like if you were going to make a generic controller havin control over the input pins would be nice too. Thanks for taking a look. I am very new to all of this and PH for me is very challanging, but very very fun and useful. It a;ways amazes me when I find 'the easier way to do something' and how great this program is!
