Floodstop is a insteon device that detect water leaks and then will operate a water valve to shut off the supply. I am trying to interface to PH if possible.

Have any one used this device?

I have not had any luck getting any information from the manufacture.

The device has a relay output when a leak is detected. I have used this output to interface to PH through a I/O Linc 2450, which tells me that a leak is detected but not which of the up to 31 stations it is at.

I am wanting to get the location of the leak if possible

I don’t have floodstop but have 2450 I/O Linc and as far as I know multiple sensors (open/close) are installed in series and they just send the open and close to 2450, signal is very simple no address, so any senor in the series could tiger open /close and 2450 will send alter but won’t know which one.

But each of the remote sensors and the main module have separate Insteon address. I have figured the address out (I think) and how to link the master module but the remote stations I have not got a clue as to how to set them up yet.

It is unlikely there are 31 Insteon addresses with FloodStop. The Insteon address is that of the I/O Linc not the FloodStop itself. To have 31 Insteon addresses would require 31 individual I/O Linc devices. The Insteon address is carried by a PLM. Each Insteon device has one internal PLM. No Insteon device carries 31 PLMs.   Even an 8 button KeypadLinc has one Insteon address.

You may be right.   The I/O link mentioned in the original post is not part of the FloodStop I added it to communicate with PH.

I have 6 remote sensors stations and one main station each does have an individual Insteon address. If it can address 31 stations I am not sure but that is what they advertize.

If the remote sensor stations and the main station each have an Insteon address how are they connected to the powerline?

I followed that link but could not find any reference to Insteon at all let alone the number of unique addresses.

I also looked and it does not mention Insteon , here is what Floodstop mentions.

The two FloodStop outputs can be used as a normally closed set of contacts for any device that can
utilize them.
Here are few items that FloodStop can be connected to:
Auto phone dialers
Alarm Systems
X10 Home Automation devices


for normally Closed device you can most likely use X10 something like X-10 Door/Window Sensor DS10A , (which is cheap but you will need controller that can read X10 wireless for pc)

or using INSTEON Wireless Door Window (2421)
or may be using EZIO (different models)

I have included a portion of the installation manual for the FloodStop hopefully that will clear up some of the confusion.

FloodStop makes several variations of the system. The system I have is the Whole House system which is the only one with Insteon features.

'Sensor Module Facts:
The Sensor Modules are the transmitter part of the system. Think of these items as a radio that sends
information back to the controller about their status. The sensor status consists of “low battery” and
“leak detection.”
Our Insteon wireless FloodStop system can accommodate up to 31 sensor modules and each of these
modules can have dozens of sensor pads.
The Sensor Modules can be powered by batteries and / or AC power. If they are AC powered, they also
act as repeaters or signal booster!
Insteon technology allows you to add other features to the FloodStop System such as: phone dialers,
remote operating panels, internet control, AC wall outlet control for other appliances, and many more'

There is no direct Insteon capability built into the FloodStop Controller. The video example demonstrating the "Insteon wireless solution" shows one of the FloodStop Controller relays connected to the external connection on a 2421 TriggerLinc which is providing the “Insteon wireless solution”. It is the TriggerLinc or I/O Linc your case that is sending the Insteon traffic. Both the TriggerLinc and I/O Linc are single connection On/Off devices. They have no ability to differentiate which remote sensor tripped the FloodStop Controller. If the FloodStop Controller had connections for 31 relays such that 31 TriggerLincs or 31 I/O Lincs could be used but no such capability exists in the FloodStop Controller.

I’m afraid the conclusion that 31 Insteon addresses were available from the FLoodStop is not accurate. In fact the FloodStop itself has no means of generating any Insteon address. It is the connection between the FloodStop relay and some Insteon device controllable from a dry contact c-form relay that results in Insteon traffic and that will be a single Insteon address indicating On/Off only.

Of course the FloodStop Controller can have 31 remote units but there will be no indication which remote unit tripped the FloodStop Controller as far as Insteon is concerned.

I see that it also mentions

LED indicators will tell you the status of the sensor module batteries, sensor module leak detection, and
position of the valve as well as when Insteon signals are being transmitted.

does each senor has Insteon address type ?

or may be the Floodstop Module only know after pairing which sensor and sends as extended command of Insteon.

you will need to look at the raw data when each senor is activated to see if information sent is different. (if you don't know may be someone will explain).

if nothing helps, ask Smarthome and post there too.

The FloodStop remotes are not using Insteon RF. That is a proprietary protocol and confidential. None of the Insteon devices will show the RF messages between the FloodStop units. Of course they can send any information they wish from their remote to the controller using their own design.

I have set up the devices with the Insteon address in PH. In the Insteon explorer I can go to the devices area and try to control the remotes and the main controller directly. The Insteon raw log shows a tx and 2 rx when I trigger either the on or off manual command if I disconnect the power from the remote I then get a Insteon time out error.
