Every night I have a timed event that executes a macro that Trims the Eventlog db to 7 days, executes ph_backupdb, waits 2 minutes, executes a script that backs up my custom PH files to local folder then copies them to my File Server for nightly backup and extended retention, 5 minutes later, ph_reinitialize () is executed.

On several occasions now Powerhome doesn't restart correctly. When I log into my server, PH is waiting with the "Connect to SQL Anywhere" dialog with user name waiting for username and password populated. If you click OK, you get the "Master Database" Error dialog, Database Connection Error -81, SQLSTATE = 08001.

I guess I have not paid attention to the code or sqlstate numbers to see if they are consistently the same. I will from now on if it helps.

I do recall 2.1.5a or b having a change to the ph_reinitialize () function, but I don't recall what.

It almost seems like timing issue, as if the database engine isn't fully shut down before it try's to restart it. Without knowing how the code is written for the function it's I'm only guessing.

Dave, Do you have any thoughts?

Lenny,

Try editing your pwrhome.ini file and try setting the reinitmethod parameter from 1 to 0 under the [System] section.

The default method of reinitialize was changed to try and completely exit PowerHome and then restart it due to some people having problems with the older reinit method. You seem to have just the opposite problem. Setting the reinitmethod to 0 will give you the old method back. Just be sure you restart PowerHome after making this change so that it takes effect.

Let me know how it works for you.

Dave.

Sorry, I didn't' get back to you sooner Dave. I will give this a shot and see what happens. The reason I reinitialize every night is because for whatever reason, the web server just stops responding randomly and I have not been able to pin down a particular event that causes it.
