All,
Ive started coding the Elk as a controller interface and wanted to get some user feedback on how to internally reference the various Elk inputs and outputs.
The Elk treats I/O in blocks of 16 with expander cards addressed from 1 to 13. Internally, I believe the Elk reference these as numbers from 1 to 208.
As such, when defining the points within PowerHome, I can set it up so that you can declare a unit (from 1 to 13) with a point from 1 to 16 OR I can just set it up so that the unit is always 0 and the point is from 1 to 208.
In the first method, you'll be able to look at the PH database and know what expander address a point is on and the relay number. In the second method, you would have to calculate the point number to determine the expander card that the point is on.
Anyways, just looking for a little feedback on which method most people would prefer.
Thanks,
Dave.

Dave,
Here is my two cents:
I presently have an Elk and 1 expander card. I will eventually have about 5-7 expander cards in the new house (I am going to have more sensors in it than the space shuttle!!).
So, to keep things easy for me, I would prefer that you go with the first method (numbering of the expansion cards). I believe that method would be easyier to ID the actual wire connection on whichever expander card was in question. Inside my panel, I would then number my expander cards to match up with PH (I would probably also cumlatively number the connections for each expander card). Magic markers are cheap!!

I would vote for the second method. That way the zones in PH match the zones in ElkRP with no chance for user translation error.
I write the zone numbers with a magic marker on the terminal strips of my expanders. If an expander card fails, it is easy to swap and have the replacement have the right unit number. I am unlikely to move all the wiring around if an expander were to fail.

Expansion card/connection point. No translation needed to say Hmmm, 53...Lets see, 13/card ......
