Dave,
Will the next PH beta include support for global cache or is it further away? I'm still looking at IR solutions and want to plan accordingly.
Thanks.

Looks like it uses TCP sockets, so the existing socket support would work (if that helps you).

Dave had mentioned in several older threads that Global Cache support was coming (after Elk support). I don't know exactly what that means or if it will add more functionality than the existing socket support.

Noel,
It's further away. I just got in contact with Global Cache and am in the midst of forming a partner alliance with them. They appear very interested in PowerHome adding support for they're product.
Hopefully I'll have a development unit soon and I'll be able to give a better estimate of timeframe.
Dave.

Cicero, you can find info on Global Cache at their website here.
As I understand it, it's hardware that allows you to send IR commands and RS232 commands and attach some sensors through your network. So if you have cat 5e or 6 hardwired to all your rooms (like I do) you would just plug this unit into your LAN and be able to control stereo, TV, drapes and whatever over the LAN.
It seems to me that it would eliminate a lot of wiring and consolidate a lot of separate systems (i.e. IR, RS232, sensors). For me it would eliminate USB-UIRT, Powermids, separate RS-232 wiring and extra RS-232 ports that I will eventually need on my computer. The prices seem pretty reasonable as well ($145 street for entry level).
With PH involved the possibilities seem almost endless.

Sweet! i don't have cabling all through my house, and don't really need it, but it does sounds like a SWEET system!
Thanks Noel!
