I'm in the process of transitioning from Houselinc to PowerHome. I've got PowerHome setup where I can manually control individual lights and have begun writing Macros and using them in timed events. I can reliably command a Macro to "play" (in the PowerHome vernacular) but when I call a Macro to execute in the Timed Events page, it's hit and miss. I do see both the timed event and the Macro command in the event log but the lights don't always react accordingly. Any ideas?

Perhaps a more fundemental question is in order. Is there any difference in how a Macro executes if it is called manually (via "play" in the macro setup screen)vs. if it is called by a timed event? Every time I execute it manually, it works. When I let the timed event call the macro it's intermittent.

Welcome!

There should be no difference. Please post the entire Timed Event entry for this to so we can check it for you.

Thanks for the welcome and the support.

The Macro is setup like this:

Macro ID: OUTSIDE OFF
Seq: 10
Skip: (Unchecked)
Command: Insteon Raw Group
Data: Computer PLC
ID: 2 (The group number of the PLC to turn on)
Value: On

The timed event:

Start Time: 2007-03-22 23:59:45
Timing: Exact
Frequency: Daily
Offset: None
Offset Amount: 0
Reference Time: 2007-03-22 23:59:45
Type: Macro
ID/Keys/Formula: OUTSIDE OFF

Here's the log from the SDM:

ui:sendinsteonraw=00 00 00 00 00 02 CF 13 00
uifinished:sendinsteonraw=00 00 00 00 00 02 CF 13 00
si:00 00 00 00 00 02 CF 13 00
PLC:sendinsteonraw=True
PLC:eventraw=03
PLC:eventraw=03
PLC:eventraw=03

Note that in the instance above, the lights did function appropriately. I've been trying to make it fail, but cannot. This is the intermittent nature of my problem. Regardless, if you can determine anything that I'm doing wrong from the above, I'd appreciate your help.

Jeff

If your problem is intermittent, I would tend to think that it was a communication problem. Check the Insteon Overall Comm reports for red NAK's. Keep in mind that there are no ACK/NAK's from group commands.

I did not know that there are no ACK/NAKs from group commands. Thanks for that tidbit.

I've got no NAKs in the comm report for the members of this group or any other devices for that matter. I'm so pleased with the reliability of Insteon compared to the nightmares I've had with X10.

I may have stumbled on to the cause of my problem. It's likely elementary to many on this forum but it wasn't intuitive to me. I was reading about how the timed events work and noted that they continually cycle and stay in order; the next event is always at the top. I would change the time of the event in an effort to get it to call the macro and noticed that it wouldn't go to the top of the list unless I left the timed events page and returned to it or I hit F5 (refresh). I must have left the page open and it was at these times the macros were not executed.

I'm not entirely sure this is the cause because I seem to recall that the events would show in the log but the lights would not react.

Are all the pages in the PowerHome explorer this way? In other words, are you required to refresh the page prior to the changes taking effect?

The "refresh" or clicking on the lightening bolt saves your changes that you've made. Just an FYI. Oh, and Welcome to the PH Forum phlips! I'm sure the folks here can get you up and running. I usually check this board and others during the day when I'm not at my PH computer, so that's why, unless I just know it off the top of my head, I don't usually provide tips directly.

Yes, refreshing should be done whenever changes are made.

We live and learn... Thanks, all.

'Look forward to catching up with the rest of you (if that's possible) and getting into the meat of this incredible program...
