For some reason, my 2414U PLC locks up after anywhere from 12-36 hours. This is a bit disconcerting, and it looks like I am the only one experiencing this.
It doesn't appear that PowerHome has an issue, since it remains running and is trying to keep in contact with the PLC. The SDM also appears to be running properly, and the log shows communication failures. The PLC LED also is not blinking once this goes kaput, which makes me suspect it as the issue.
Can anyone give me any hints on troubleshooting this?
Thanks...

That actually sounds like the SDM issue.

Hmmm... any idea how I can fix this? Is there some update available? If so, how do I get my grubby paws on it?
Thanks...

Yes and no.
Reinitializing PH should bring it back, as should shutting down PH and the SDM and unplugging the PLC for a bit.
This is a problem with the SDM and needs to be fixed by SmartHome.
Also, check the Insteon Explorer for Failed Comm's and clear them if necessary.
You can check in the "Device Maint" tab of the Insteon Explorer. If they are flagged as COMM failed, that column will appear with a reddish background.

I had this problem. The SDM log showed "send failed." I had the PLC connected through a four port hub. Connected directly to the PC's USB port I haven't had any more problems.

I believe that is the same issue regarding the "send failed". However, unlike you, I was not connected to USB via a hub, so there is nothing I can remove.
I am disappointed here. The whole reason I gave up on the X-10 stuff years ago was the lack of reliability, but at least there it was the individual modules, not at the controller. If the Insteon controller doesn't work reliably, the whole game is lost. To put it bluntly, that sucks.
Sorry, just venting...

Tony:
Thanks for the info. I have seen some failed comm's and cleared them in the past. Overall, the communication seems pretty good in my set-up.
I'm now thinking that I might want to put my PLC on an applianceLink in order to re-boot it nightly. Of course, I'm not sure this is enough; would I also have to restart the PowerHome application in order to re-start the SDM? If so, I think that the coordination of the two re-starts would be painful.
Does anyone else go to such an extreme?

I have the same problem as you. It's SmartHome's SDM that's the problem. I've tried several different versions of the SDM with PH but can not get more than about 12 hours before SDM locks up.
I was going to try a new version of the PLC (mines an early one but it does have the 2.12 firmware) but I think I'll wait until the new PLM comes out.
I know your frustration as I'd really like to be able to use PH full-time but until SmartHome's Insteon interface is stable PH is relegated, unfortunately, to just link management (but boy is it great at that)...

FYI, I get days to weeks out of my setup.
There was a post here somewhere that detailed how to get things restarted with a timed event and a macro/formula.

What version SDM and firmware in the PLC?
I belive that 308 and 2.13 are the latest.
There have been some issues with multiple instances of the SDM getting loaded. Use TaskManager to check on that. Make sure there's only one version on the computer.
