My china cabinet plug-in module died recently, and I will replace it with a new one. I searched the forum to see if there was an easy way to do this, and about a year and a half ago someone requested this functionality.
Is there anything that will help me do this, or do I just have to replace it everywhere by brute force?

If it's Insteon, it's easy. Go to Insteon Explorer, Devices Tab, then enter the new module address in the Replace Address column of the device you are changing.

Searched the PH .PDF files for words like Swap, Replace, Dead, but did not find anything on replacing a failed device. Does not mean it is not there, just did not find it by searching. PH does so much perhaps someone will know how to do it with PH.
If you have HouseLinc Desktop from Smarthome, right click on the failed device entry, select "Swap IDs", enter the new device address, and like magic, everything is changed.
EDIT: Tony. Your post was not there when I started mine. That is good to hear as I want to make PH my Insteon management software. May need some publication update as I went back and searched again both .pdf files for "replace" and found nothing that described replacing a device.

Another way, if its Insteon, is to go to PowerHome Explorer ==> Devices ==> Insteon ==> Units and change the address there.

Pete, will PH pick that change up and automatically rebuild the links in all the affected devices.

Lee, that’s a good question. Since the change was made in DEVICE it will be reflected in the Insteon Explorer Device screen. My guess is the Link screen will not show the old device links and any links to it will be ID Not Found unless you manually delete and re-link it. I guess the real question is will Tony’s suggestion do that automatically? My thoughts are everything would remain the same and for linking the new address would be used. My question is will the replaced address override everything reflected in the Insteon device for commands like on/off.

Thanks for that reference. My curiosity got the best of me and I replaced a working LampLinc with a new one. Put the new LampLinc address in the Replace Address field of the original LampLinc. After doing a Save, unchecking the Disabled column, doing another Save, PH did in fact delete the links in a Keypadlinc and ControLinc to the old LampLinc address. Then added new links back to the same two devices and the new LampLinc. When PH was done, the ControLinc and the Keypadlinc are controlling the new LampLinc. Magic! Very nice feature. Now the question is, John, were you asking about replacing an Insteon device.
