All,

Just wanted to give everybody an update on the next PowerHome beta. We're real close, I should have it ready for download in the next 2 weeks. Some of the features I promised for this next beta are having to slip due to time constraints (they'll be at the top of the list for the next beta). However, we do have alot of new features including:

UPB support including triggers and import from UPStart.
Finished support for the Insteon PLM.
Enhanced Timed Events including ID, Active, and Boolean fields.
Enhanced Control Center functionality setting the stage for new CC objects. Some of which may make it into this beta .
The ability to copy a group of CC objects from 1 tab to another.
The ability to resize a group of CC objects based upon a percentage.
The ability to filter the Device Status screen by location dropdown.
The much requested auto-shutdown of the SDM when PowerHome exits.
Enhancements to Elk M1 Gold support.
Numerous bug fixes and Insteon updates.

Upcoming features planned are:

Z-wave support
ISY support
Insteon NetLinc support
Global Cache IRE and IRL support

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on status .

Oops...almost forgot. One of the big features of the next beta will include an updated manual. The current manual is way out of date and I know this will be a welcome addition.

Another oops...the next beta will also include the first cut at a new Setup wizard that will also pre-generate Control Center screens based upon your defined devices.

Dave.

Great news Dave - thanks for the awesome effort.

Will it support the Insteon Motion Sensor?

This is indeed good news. I'm really looking forward to the updated documentation. I've also been patiently waiting for Insteon thermostat support. I'd like to see what PH can do with that device before I purchase one.

Jeff,
Just so you know, PowerHome already supports the Insteon Thermostat. I'm running two right now. See this thread:
http://power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1683&KW=Inst eon+Thermostat&PN=0&TPN=2

On Page 3 there is a macro you can import from Martlist which sets up everything for you. Takes a couple of minutes.

BTW, I bought my second Thermo off ebay for $42(the 7 day programmable version) and bought the Insteon Adaptor from smarthome when they were having a sale.
You certainly don't need the 7 day version if you are going to use PH but the 7 day version supports the humidity sensor which the 1 day version does not.

From PowerHome you can remotely control the thermostat - raise and lower the temp and turn on the fan, heat, ac etc as well as check the Temp and Humidity at the stat. I actually like it a lot.

If you have any specific questions about it and PH let me know.

Nadler,

I think Jeff's speaking of NATIVE support, without that work-around (which I use as well )

What command do you use for the fan? I missed that one!

Fan On ph_insteon("THERMOSTAT",107,7)
Fan Off ph_insteon("THERMOSTAT",107,8)

Jeff - I think the motion sensor will work with PH out of the box.

I think the real question that Jeff W is referring to is will the Insteon Types be defined for the Insteon Motion Sensor. And I agree with Noel it should work out of the box.

Thanks Nadler. If this next version supports the thermostat "natively," then there's really no reason for me not to wait.

I actually went and checked up on that thread after posting here the other day and it's gotten further along than I anticipated. It seems you guys have it doing everything that I want it to do.

While I'm waiting for this new release I need to educate myself on HVAC a little so I can hook the new 'stat up when I get one. So I've got a little homework to do anyway.

not sure anyone really answered my qn.

I pre-ordered the Motion Sensor but if it won't work with PH (i.e., I won't receive hand-shook events from it), I should cancel the order...

thanks!

I'm sure it'll be fine. By definition the thing must be able to send Insteon commands to other devices, which is enough for PH to be able to participate.

The question is not whether it will work but how easy it will be to get it hooked up in PH.

Dave: Nice work, I am curious to see the new version...

note: Hopefully you can get started with the implementation with Zwave soon!

this is fun!! now we can set a Timed Event, e.g. of every 5 min., with conditions
e.g. if the temperature of [SENSOR1] > 80 then .....

Nadler - I've been running my STAT now for several weeks and am having a lot of problems with it. There are a lot of '03' events and until I placed an Insteon Access Point 3 feet away from the STAT I was getting so many NAKS from it, that PH shut the STAT off within minutes due to "Failed" comm attempts.

Even now I seem to get a lot of false readings (ie, house temp at 9 degrees when it should be 73!)and I note in the Event Log that instead of responding with its correct address of 0E.60.36 I see a lot of 03.60.36 responses (I have no such device and the STAT is the only unit that comes close to matching that bogus address). I'm a bit surprised that such errors can sneak by the CRC check on the message.

What has your experience been?

PS - I'm running the latest Alpha version of PH, if it makes any difference.

Dave - the new features list does not include the Insteon Thermostat. Does it look like it will be included, and do you have a current time target for the beta release yet?

How about an Iphone app?

I know it would be easy enough for us to make our own webapp, but PowerHome would be a great addition to the app store!!!
