I downloaded and installed as new and had it working and suddenly it is not working. I get a pop up box stating "SmartHome Device Manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC PL2414U. Attempting to restart controller ..."

It keeps trying to restart the controller over and over. I noticed that there is now no icon in the system tray for the SmartHome Timer app.

I know its something stupid that I have done, but so far I have not been able to fix it. I sent a "critical error" dump to PH support since it popped up and offered the information.

This is running on XP Pro service pack 3.

Thanks in advance for assisting this newb.

Welcome!

 Try this...

Close down PH, check the task manager to make sure the timer app is closed, then bring PH back up.

I have shut down and restarted PH many times, even completely rebooting the pc but nothing works. I think the problem is that the timer software is never starting since I never see the icon in the system tray and I used to see it there. I also have the Smarthome Timer software app that I originally started with and it seems to have no trouble talking to the controller. Just now I loaded the Smarthome timer app and left it running while starting PH but I still get the same message.

 Other ideas?

you dont want the "timer app" but the SMD? SDM? it should be load when PH loads. try and load it manually then load PH. I beleive it is a directory in the PH directory.

I think I fixed it. I went into windows task manager after shutting down both PH and Smarthome timers and there was still an SDM3.exe running. I killed it and then restarted PH and the SDM3.exe showed back up again and PH now seems to be communicating.

 Go figure.

Thanks to all for your assistance.

It actually happened again yesterday evening and the SmartHome app generated a debug report (a piece of which is shown further below)which I emailed to them.

Not sure why this is happening but then I have just started using/experimenting with PowerHome and insteon. I have had X10 for years but it just became too unreliable in my environment.

Here is part of the debug. If anyone wants the whole thing, let me know.

From that report it looks like SDM crashed.     Try this whatever SDM your using try the other. Go to Program files – PowerHome – SmartHome and click the DOS file your NOT using. See if a different version changes the problem
