I got these 3 back to back 2 seconds apart. The 1st 2 are normal but what triggered the 3rd. The device is a 2876D ICON Dimmer.
INSTEON OUT Insteon DM Controller PLM transmission of Address:[09.42.7F] Flags:[15] Cmd1:[17] Cmd2:[60]. Decode: Direct. ID: LR_FIREPLACE, On
INSTEON IN Incoming Insteon received on Insteon DM controller PLM. From Address:[09.42.7F] To Address:[0D.4F.EE] Flags:[39] Cmd1:[17] Cmd2:[60]. Decode: Direct ACK. From: LR_FIREPLACE To: PLM, On
INSTEON IN Incoming Extended Insteon received on Insteon DM controller PLM. From Address:[09.42.7F] To Address:[0E.B0.11] Flags:[214] Cmd1:[192] Cmd2:[63] EXT Data:[00 30 47 48 FA CC 4A D5 E5 5A A2 64 AC 00 ]. Decode: Ext Group Broadcast. From: LR_FIREPLACE Group: 17, Unmapped Command

It will take someone with I2 doc to interpret this one. It looks like PH issued a Direct command to LR_FIREFLACE to turn ON at bright level 0x60 (a little under 50%). The LR_FIREPLACE ACKed the Direct command. Did someone press the paddle to turn it On to Full Bright? The flag bits of the 3rd message indicate an Extended Group Broadcast, Flags:[214] 0xD9 (extended message of a Group Broadcast message if there is such a thing). If there is such a thing then what is its content? The interpretation by PH seems based on the normal front end of an Insteon message, standard or extended. A Standard Group Broadcast does not have a To: address as such, that field normally holds the Group number (who knows for an Extended Group Broadcast). Yet there appears to be what could be a valid Insteon To: address 0E.B0.11. Do you have a device with that address that the ICON could be sending a Group Broadcast to when the paddle is pressed? The Group: 17 is simply the decimal representation of the lower order byte of the To: address xx.xx.11. There have been odd things posted where I2 is being used (HL2). What did we use to say, “Ignore it unless/until it happens again”.
The one thing you might look for is the Raw Log message that produced this Event Log entry. An inbound 02 50 is a Standard message, an inbound 02 51 is an Extended message. Might be interesting to know if the PLM thought it was actually receiving an extended message or an erroneous bit was set in the flag byte after the PLM received a valid Standard message. Lots of questions and no answers without an I2 document!

Lee, the Insteon Out followed by the Insteon In look normal, Now the To address of the 3rd one OE.B0.11 is an unknown and the From device is a 3 prong ICON no paddles. So that basically eliminates Group Broadcast. I wonder if this is a collision of noise PH is trying to interpret. The Raw Log data was lost. The log, for some reason, closes when it feels like it and I lose the information.

I agree with the probable noise/collision conclusion. Or maybe some hiccup in the PLM itself. No reason for a LampLinc/ApplianceLinc to ever issue a Group Broadcast that I know of. Before the PLM recognizing Extended messages it might have been ignored in the Event Log as just another message. Although my PLC will actually return what it thinks is an extended message. Caught me by surprise when it happened as I did not think the PLC could/would do that. Did not realize this until I added some code to the SHN Utility to log raw inbound data in the Insteon Traffic window. I wrote it off as noise or some such nonsense as I have no extended message traffic.
