Hi - Powerhome in my house is "mission-critical". Thus, since there was no features in PH-2 that I -needed-, I haven't upgraded yet, sitting happily on the sidelines waiting for stability to be declared. Eventually I will upgrade in case there are new features added that I need, or just because support for PH-1 will eventually go away.
So how's it going? is PH-2 as stable as PH-1 yet? Any known issues?
I haven't seen much posted about this in a while so I thought I would ask.

Using the PLM with V2.1b has been rock solid for me. Since the B release I haven’t had a lockup. The only thing that I am aware of is the formula error message if you have that feature turned on. But that is just a false message not a performance issue.

I am using V2.1b w/ a PLM for Insteon (same as Pete). PH runs 24/7 for me even on a Vista machine.
V2.1b is a stable performer.

I'm also running 2.1b with a PLM for Insteon. I'm running under Windows Server 2008. Since I swapped out the USB PLC for the PLM everything has been solid. The SDM app with the PLC was causing problems all the time. I'm also using a CM11a for X10 and a W800RF32. Haven't had one issue with PowerHome since the PLM.
The only quirky stuff that I have experienced appear to be related to Windows Server 2008. I can't get PowerHome to work under a normal user account, or even a user account that is part of the Admin group. I can only get PowerHome to work properly when run under the default Administrator account. Also, I used to be able to access PowerHome via a VNC connection to my old Windows Server 2003 machine running PowerHome, but since I upgraded to 2008, that doesn't work.

ok - thinking about taking the leap - but I have a PLC (and
(knock wood) it has always been 100% solid for me) - any issues here?

Jeff, I am currently running on my PLC backup since my PLM went south. I have not had a problem and have been up for 4 days. I‘ll go back to the PLM whenever the replacements arrives.

Jeff,
I have a PLC and the last time I shut down PH was more than six days ago and not because PH had problems but because of a Windows update that required a reboot.

I'm guessing here, but please correct me. I believe I can
1) Exit from PH-1
2) install PH-2, it will read my PH-1 setup and copy it over.
3) Run with PH2, but
4) I can then have PH-2 -OR- PH-1 running. (This lets me play with PH2, but go back to PH1 for mission-critical house control if I find a problem with PH2)
Yes? Caveats?

The migration is pretty straight forward. The file utility will upgrade your database from V1 to V2. The only way I know of to accomplish what you suggest it to keep a copy of your ini and db files from V1 and reinstall the previous version. I don’ believe you can have 2 copies ready to run because of registration of certain files. I’ve run different versions on separate systems as long that both systems are not on the power line at the same time.

Yes you can install in different directories but I don’t know, and it may make no difference, if they will have shared references or different ones in the registry.

Jeff,
I've been running PH2 for several months without a
problem. I think once you go to PH2 you won't want to
return to PH. PH2 upgrades the PH database so you can't
directly switch back and forth between both versions.
But after you've converted to PH2 you can go back to
PH1. It just takes a little doing.
First to setup PH2 - Close PH. Rename your current PH
directory -powerhome to a different name (let's say
powerhomeold). Very important, you must do this.
Install PH2. It makes a new powerhome directory and
installs to that new directory. Copy your db file from
the powerhomeold/database directory to the new
powerhome/database directory. Copy your old
powerhome.ini files from your powerhomeold directory to
the new powerhome directory. Copy any plugin *.ini
files or your web files or graphics that may be unique
to your installation. Now, from the new powerhome
directory run the phupg.exe file in the new powerhome
directory. This converts your old database to the new
format. It also creates a backup of your database. So
you now have 3 copies. A copy in powerhomeold/database
directory, a copy in the powerhome/database renamed and
the copy of the new database. Now run PH2 and you
should be all set.
To go back to PH from PH2 make sure you close PH2.
Rename the new powerhome directory to something else
(let's say powerhome21b). Rename the powerhomeold
directory to powerhome. And run powerhome. You should
now be in the original PH with the original database.
To go back to PH2 reverse the directory name changes.
You may need to reboot your PC after you rename the
directories, I think you don't but I'm not sure.
If the above isn't clear, give a holler.
