Hi Guys,
Boy has it been a while since I was here. Just no time for playing these days.
I am going to be moving PH to a new faster PC shortly and I have a couple questions.
1) will I need a new licence key for the new machine? If I remember correctly I will, but wasn't able to find that topic in a forums search.
2) what all do I need to copy over to the new machine?
I had one hell of a fight getting the CID to work, and actually Dave remotely connected and had to spend quite some time getting it to work himself. I don't really want to go through that again. Plus, I haven't had to touch anything on PH in MONTHS, it just runs and runs, so it will take me bit to get it all going again. I'm hoping I can copy over enough files to save my macros and everything. I know the datebase has to go, but not sure of what else works with PH2.
Thanks,
Brian

As I understand it, pretend it's an upgrade. Fresh install, then copy over the DB, ini files, and such.

Brian,
Glad to see you're back.
No need for another license. As Tony said, just treat it as an upgrade. Just perform these steps.
1. Shutdown PowerHome
2. Rename the PowerHome directory (default c:\program files\powerhome renamed to something like c:\program files\powerhome_103412)
3. Install latest PowerHome version into default directory (c:\program files\powerhome)
4. COPY over your pwrhome.db and pwrhome.ini files from your old PowerHome install into the new PowerHome install.
5. Also copy over any plugin INI files or specific PSP, graphic, or other types of files from the old PowerHome directory to the new PowerHome directory. If you werent using plugins or made your own PSP or other web related files you can skip this step.
6. Perform a database upgrade by running the phupg.exe program.
7. Launch the new PowerHome install.
If for some reason you have problems, you should be able to rename the new install and then rename the old install back to its original.
Dave.

There is a DB update utility with each release. Be sure to following the install instructions as I think the various DB update utilities are sequence dependent. Some new columns have been added (don't remember which entities) so it may be necessary to edit some of the items to fill in the missing data. Just too long ago for a clear memory.
I moved from the last version 1 release to 2.0 when it was released and the DB utility converted the version 1 DB to version 2.0. I think there was another DB utility to move from 2.0 to 2.1. Don't remember about the move from 2.1 to 2.1a. Pretty sure the 2.1a DB works on 2.1b without being updated. The install instructions covered the migration path from various previous releases to 2.1b.
EDIT: Dave's post was not there when I started my post. Obviously follow his instructions regarding the DB update.

Well I'm finally there. Got the new PC, running and about to DL and install PH. I've backed up everything to do with PH so should have everything I need.
What? it only took me almost 7 months to finally get the time to do this... so what!

Successful (almost).
I'm having a problem getting the CID function to work. Considering I wrote the tutorial for it a while back, I am at a loss to what's wrong.
Everything is working but this, it loads fine, appears in the About-plugins as being enabled etc. but when I call the house, I get a run-time error. So, I have attached the screen shots hoping one of you can help me out on this (I am using the same modem as before and can talk to it just fine).
thanks, Brian

Wild guess but have you tried to re-install it?

If you mean the plugin, yes I have... twice. If you mean PH, no I have not.

Hi guys,
I have just spent the last couple hours trying to get the CID plugin to work. Everything works through Hyperterm, the CID info comes through like it should. I have re-installed PH2, and the plugin(3 times now) and still get the error I originally posted.
This is really getting frustrating now, is there something different to do when using PH2? I'm using the same modem as on PH1 and it worked flawlessly there.
Nothing gets entered into the event log either, so this is crashing before it starts I would presume. Anyone have any thoughts?
Brian

Just noticed something else. Before the CID crashes, the Help-About-Plugins info is like posted above and responds right away, after the error, it takes awhile before that window opens, and the plugin information is different?!

Brian, if I remember correctly didn’t Dave write you a Canadian specific CID plugin. If so I wonder if it needs to be recompiled for this release.

Hey BB! I think you might be right on that. I had so much trouble getting it to work even with everyones help at the time, I had forgotten about that.

I just tried something to see. I uninstalled PH2 and reinstalled my old version of PH. I still get the same error. I am using the same modem as before, Hyperterm sees the caller id info correctly, so I know the modem works, yet as soon as I call, and the CID info arrives that run-time error pops up.
I also went back and found my old (I think it is the correct one) version of the plugin, but still no go.
I'm also now not able to talk to the x10 controller, although PH says it is connected NO commands work. I'm about to give up on the whole HA thing.

Ok before you give up Brian let’s go back to basics. Have you changed you’re Telco supplier, modem, computer and/or OS. I’m aware of at least one. Some of us are operating on Win7 and Vista with no problem providing you perform a couple of configuration changes. Your problem doesn’t sound like a PH problem but more of an environment issue. And lastly what is the X10 controller you are trying to talk to CM11a?

Hi Pete,
No I don't think it is a PH problem either, not now anyway. I have not
changed anything but the PC. I am still using the same modem as
before, and still running XP pro as before. If I remember this has 2
gigs of RAM. It is a dual core intel processor the old machine was
only like a 733Mhz thing. Slow as molasses but worked.
I am trying to talk to a CM11a. Which I have depowered, removed the
batteries, and repowered. Actually put new batteries in it as well.
I'm not sure if the CID problem is power home or not, but I do not
think the CM11a problem is.
I would love to move to insteon but with a kid just starting college
today, and In need of a car.... Well as we all know money doesn't
grow on trees.

Basic question… Did you restore your old OS or did you reinstall and then installed the programs? If you did the latter you may be operating with a different set of drivers than the ones that were working.

I was thinking about that last night actually. But when the modem appears to respond normally I didn't think it would be a problem.
It is a new install, however it was not done by me. I bought a off lease system that was wiped and re-installed. Everything seemed to work so I didn't bother doing anything to it myself. Now you are asking, I'm starting to wonder.....

Just for giggles I would install the latest drivers for the CM11a and modem and see what happens.
