When setting up the PLM for Insteon, do you add the Full or Minimal IDs to the PLM? What is the difference? With the old PLC it was recommended to use the Minimal. Has this changed with the PLM?

I suggest using Add Full with a PLM. The PLC and PLM use different rules for resolving a Group powerline message to a link record. The PLM requires a match on Insteon Id and Group number where the PLC was not as particular.

Lee is right on. We learned along time ago full works where min is flaky with PLMs.

When using "Full", just make sure that you create a link all devices and the PLM. If a link does not exist, then the PLM will never "hear" the remote device. Early versions of the PLM are also safe to use the "Min" function (the ones with the smaller database). Im not sure what firmware version the change actually occurred, but at some point, the "Min" version did not work well.

What the "Min" version does is create a link in the PLC/PLM database for every device defined within PowerHome, whether an actual link exists or not. This did not follow the Insteon standard but did enable us to extend the limited memory of the PLC and early PLM's if you had alot of PLC/PLM group definitions.

What the "Full" version does is create only (and every) link that is actually defined (within PH) between a device and the PLC/PLM. This is what all the newer PLM's like to see and shouldnt be a problem with the extended memory. The only snag you may encounter is if you have a device that is not directly linked to the PLM as either a responder of a PLM group or linked as a controller with the PLM as the responder. Without one of these links being defined within PowerHome, you will never have that device ID within the PLM memory and the PLM will never report any Insteon comm's from that device. A "min" version will still add the device ID so comms can be heard. If you change from "min" to "full" and you seem to be missing some comms, be sure and check for this condition .

Dave.
