Hey guys. I got my 2413U in today and I am having a hard time getting this thing setup. From what I understand the 2413U no longer uses the SDEM, is this correct? I am running this on Windows XP 32 bit and the computer is detecting the new item as a USB controller, however I have no idea how to get PH to communicate with it. I have tried several different device settings with no avail.
Any help will be greatly appreciate :)

Under Powerhome Explorer, Setup | Controllers, define an entry selecting Controller Type "Insteon PLM". Under Settings the Comm Port identifies the port being used by the 2413U. The OS seems to assign comm port numbers to USB devices starting at 4 but that may only be on XP. The OS should have what port the PLM is operating on.
SDM3 is used only with PLCs. PH2 interfaces directly with a PLM as though it is a Serial device, regardless of whether the PLM is a 2413S or 2413U. That is why the “Controller Type” is “Insteon PLM" for either PLM.

I did. I got everything talking and I think the PLM is bad. There is nothing that I can do (even after a hard reset) to get isResponding=true. I think I have to send this back and get a new one.
I do have a question. Why did the version number go backwards for the updated device. They no longer make the 2414 but make a 2413 which is updated?

isResponding is associated with SDM3 and PLC. You will not see any of that with a PLM. SDM3 should not even be started unless using both a PLC and PLM.
Device Type numbers 2412 (non-Dual Band PLM), 2413 (Dual Band PLM, 2414 (PLC) numeric values are irrelevant.
If using a PLM only and isResponding entries are in the Insteon Raw Log, the Controller Type is set incorrectly.

I current have the 2413 and when I plug it in PH actually starts up SDM3 and tries to communicate with it. I have tried everything include with uninstalling SDM3 and PH never finds anything to connect too and just attempts to restart the controller over and over. I am on the latest version of PH as well. I have tried different controllers in the setup and different com ports with no success. Windows finds it just fine, drivers are install and device shows its ok.
Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Powerhome Explorer
Setup Controllers
Load Order - 10
Controller Type – Insteon PLM
Active – checked
Under Settings
Comm Port – 1 (this PLM is Serial connected to a Serial port)
If you want to keep the PLC definition (Controller Type – Insteon DM) remove the Active check from its definition.
There is only one valid PLM definition. Controller Type – Insteon PLM with the Comm Port that matches the PLM.
Note that a File | Reinit is needed when changes are made to Controller information.

If you still have a problem after you do what Lee suggested
then go to Help and tell us under the tab Controllers what
it says.

Ok guys, no dice. I have done the following:
1. Uninstalled HomeSeer
2. Uninstalled the SDM3 as PH keeps trying to launch it.
3. Launched Powerhome Explorer
4. Setup Controllers and made sure that Load Order is 10 and Controller Type is Insteon PLM with Active checked
11. Under Settings
Comm Port – 1 (this PLM is Serial connected to a Serial port) is listed.
I have also tried the controller with active on and off for both PLM and DM. No dice :(
All I keep getting is the following error:
An error occurred while attempting to open COM port 1 on Insteon PLM controller 1. Attempting to restart controller...
I have tried all 4 com ports with a re-initialize after each one.
If I remove the active check from the PLM I get this:
Your Insteon controller is either not defined or currently disconnected.
PowerHome and the Insteon Explorer will not be able to communicate with your PLC until an active Insteon Controller is available.
You can correct this problem by opening the PowerHome Explorer and either defining a controller with a type of "Insteon DM" or setting "Active" an already defined "Insteon DM" controller and then either restarting or reinitializing.
What is interesting is if I change the controller to Insteon DM - Active checked this thing fires up the SDM version 308 and gives the following error: Your Insteon controller is either not defined or currently disconnected.
PowerHome and the Insteon Explorer will not be able to communicate with your PLC until an active Insteon Controller is available.
You can correct this problem by opening the PowerHome Explorer and either defining a controller with a type of "Insteon DM" or setting "Active" an already defined "Insteon DM" controller and then either restarting or reinitializing.

Unless you are trying to run the PLC and the PLM at the same time the Insteon DM entry, which is the PLC entry, should not be Active (not checked).
The USB PLM is not likely on Com Port 1. As I noted in my last post the Com 1 is for a Serial port attached PLM, not a USB attached PLM. Check the operating system to see what com port number has been assigned to the USB PLM. On my XP system I select Control Panel | System | Device Manager | Ports (Com & LPT) | USB Serial PLM (COM4) which is a 2413U PLM.
Once the Insteon DM Controller entry is no longer marked Active and PH restarted SDM3 should not be loaded when PH starts up.
Then the Insteon PLM entry defined with the correct Com port number and PH restarted the PLM should be active

Lee you are the man. Sorry I missed that part. Once I looked up at the Ports (Com & LPT) I saw I was on com port 7. I changed to that and restarted the system and PH cranked right up with no issues at all and the Insteon Raw Log has tons of chatter.
