I have an ~8 yr. old Insteon network, the devices being pre-I2CS. I originally programmed them with PowerHome and a 2414U PLC attached to my PC.
I've recently had a SwitchLinc (2476D) fail, and in an attempt to avoid the issue of my 2414U not being I2CS compatible with the newer 2477 devices , I found what I thought was an older 2476D, assuming it would work.
Well, it's rev 4.X device, and it appears it's also an I2CS device. PowerHome can see it, but not program or control it... I believe that's because my 2414U interface is not I2CS compatible.
However, it does interoperate with the rest of my older devices with the manual "tap" method of setting it as a responder. I'm just not able to do the advanced linking I need without software.
Given that it appears to be hardware interoperable, my question is this: Provided I purchase a newer PLC (2413U), is there anything that prevents me from mix-n-matching the 2 generations of devices and using PowerHome to program them?
Thanks...

Steve,
You should have no issues with the mixed environment. Ive still got a few of the original Insteon devices in my own setup (don't know how they lasted this long ). PowerHome is setup to recognize the Legacy, the I2, and the I2CS devices and use the commands as appropriate.
The I2CS protocol only becomes involved once you try to do the software linking and advanced reading/writing of data direct to a devices memory. Manual tap linking and remote control (basically the sending/receiving of group commands) all should still work as it still uses the legacy protocol.
Hope this helps,
Dave.
