Just got my 2814UB Smarthome Manager Essential, Timer USB. Does this work with PowerHome? I got to the setup controller page. What am I supposed to select?

Lazyman,
The latest beta version of PowerHome will support this device. You'll have to download from this link here (http://www.power-home.com/download/ph10345setup.exe) as the download page is not updated yet. Under Controllers, you'll choose the "Insteon DM" controller.
Since this is an Insteon device, be sure and read the phinsteon.rtf file in the PowerHome directory for IMPORTANT Insteon information and PowerHome use.
To all others...the next beta of PowerHome will be available in a day or so. I lot of changes were being tested in the 1.03.4.5 version and the fixes will be available in this next version.
Dave.

can we update from the current version to the next beta or do we have to install 1.03.4.5 and then the next beta?

The reference to the phinsteon.rtf file was great. I would have never looked to it. Well written and a good explaination.
However, I am still having a problem. When I type DM, nothing happens.
In detail, here is what is happening:
I get the error message "The XXX PLC is not responding. Commands will not be sent." I double clicked on the new icon in the tray which opened the Adaptive Service Anywhere pwrhome window. The data in the window was as follows:

Peter,
Yes, you'll be able to update from either 1.03.4.4 or 1.03.4.5 to 1.03.4.6.
With any luck though, the 1.03.4.6 may be out tonight.
Dave.

Lazyman,
Thats the wrong icon . What you've opened is the Adaptive Server Anywhere which is the database server for PowerHome. Everything you posted with it is fine so you can just minimize it back.
The Device Manager icon looks kind of like a yellow "T". Don't bother looking for it though because Im certain it's not loaded. This version did not properly register the SDM activex control.
However, it's a real easy fix. Shutdown PowerHome and navigate to the PowerHome directory (default c:\program files\powerhome). Beneath the PowerHome directory should be a SmartHome\Device Manager directory. Go to it and launch the file SDM3.exe. This is the SmartHome Device Manager. When you launch it, it will automatically register the activex control and update the registry (you'll also see the "T" in the tray). Now just relaunch PowerHome. You should be good to go. From now on when PowerHome launches, it will automatically launch the SDM for you.
Let me know how it goes,
Dave.

Fixed that problem thanks. Again the file phinsteon.rtf was GREAT. However, I still have some simple questions.
I just converted my house to Insteon with a few x-10 devices remaining. I have the 2814UB Smarthome Manager Essential, Timer USB.
1) From the forums, it appears Powerhome still does not support the CM15A (which will come later). Is that correct?
2) To control my x-10 devices (and my insteon devices), do I need to use the TM751 and CM17A, in addition to the Insteon 2814UB Smarthome Manager Essential, Timer USB?
I know there is a basic concept I am missing here.

Lazyman,
1. Correct. PowerHome does not yet support the CM15A. I'll be working on it shortly.
2. You can use your Insteon controller to send X-10 commands. You no longer need to use the CM17A (unless you're trying to control the relay output of a TM751. That device ONLY responds to RF X10 commands). Or, you can just use both. Create a controller for the Insteon and another for the CM17A. You may still be using a palm pad or other RF transmitter so may still need the TM751.
When you create your controllers, they'll be assigned an ID. When you create X10 and Insteon devices, you'll need to tell it the ID of the controller that controls it.
Dave.

I am not sitting in front of Powerhome so I may get some terminology wrong.
Things are going pretty well. I installed the controller, auto discovered all the devices and two-way communication was confirmed for every device.
Now, with Powerhome, I started linking the devices. On the new links (using Insteon dimmers as controllers instead of the PowerLinc V2) I am getting a lot of “Not Found” Any suggestions?
I have 2 signal enhancers..
2nd Question: Can I use Powerhome to assign x-10 addresses to Insteons? How?

I jsut installed the PH software (1.03.4.6) and is seems to have trouble auto-discovering any of the new Icon Lamplinc or Icon Appliancelincs.
I noticed that they aren't listed in the drop down for the device types either.

Lazyman,
Before you start creating links with PowerHome, be sure you give it enough time discover all of your existing links. If you start creating links before PowerHome has discovered everything, you'll end up overwriting your existing links.
After giving PowerHome sufficient time to discover everything, if you have "NOT FOUND" in some of your links, that means your devices have links that are not valid and are wasting space.
PowerHome can be used to "assign" the X-10 address. It cannot place the device in "linking" mode however and this must be done at the device. To assign an X-10 address, the procedure seems to be: press and hold the "on" button until the device goes into "link" mode. Then send the X10 address you wish to assign 3 times.
To have PowerHome send the X-10 address, you can use a formula or a macro. The easiest may be just a formula. To send K4 3 times using a controller ID of "X10-1", you can use the following formula:
Code:
ph_x10("X10-1","K",4,0) + ph_x10("X10-1","K",4,0) + ph_x10("X10-1","K",4,0) |
|
|
. To execute this formula, open the "PowerHome Multi Editor" and press "Shift-F6" (PH Formula should appear in the title. Copy and paste the above formula. Execute the formula by select Edit->Execute Script from the menu.
Let me know how everything goes.
Dave.

Carl,
You are correct, I dont have the ICON Lamp and ICON Appliance modules defined within the PowerHome database.
I don't have either of these devices so I cant test what Im about to tell you either.
Adding the new devices to PowerHome is easy enough. You could type it manually or import the SQL below:
Code:
INSERT INTO insteontypes VALUES (
17,
'2856S3 - Icon Appliance Module',
'1',
'On',
'Off',
'Dimmed',
'Unknown',
0,
65535,
0,
8421504,
0,
15793151,
0,
12639424,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
1);
INSERT INTO insteontypes VALUES (
18,
'2856D2 - Icon Lamp Dimmer',
'1D',
'On',
'Off',
'Dimmed',
'Unknown',
0,
65535,
0,
8421504,
0,
15793151,
0,
12639424,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
1);
|
|
|
To import the above SQL, open the PowerHome multi editor and press shift-F5 (SQL should appear in the title). Copy and paste the above SQL and then select Edit->Execute Script from the menu (Deja-vu). This will work if you have not made any changes to your Insteontypes table.
That should give you the ICON lamp and appliance module types. Give that a try and see if they are recognized now.
Let me know,
Dave.
