I am guessing this is a insteon NOOB problem.... but I can not get my insteon links to stay there in the devices... I linked them lastnight and now they are gone agian. I hold the keypadlink a button till it blinks and the hold the button on the switch to be linked. it blinks all is ok... then later that night/next day... it is gone. This is the 4th time to reprogram it.. sometimes the keypad light stays on when the PLC controlles the icon switch... is this normal or do I have another problem?

Todd,
It sounds as if you're manually creating your links using tap-tap linking. Is there some reason you're not doing it in PowerHome?
If you manually create links and have "Background Database Scanning" turned off or have changed any of the default Insteon controller settings, PowerHome may not be able to discover links created this way. If you then use PowerHome to create a link, it can overwrite the manual link.
When you create your links manually, does PowerHome eventually discover them for you? If so, do they look OK from within PowerHome? If they look OK and seem to disappear from the actual switch, right-click the link and choose "Reverify" and see what happens.
Let me know and Im sure we'll get it fixed.
Dave.

no PH does not find the links.... I get a bunch of
Incoming Insteon received on Insteon DM controller INSTEONCONTROLLER. From Address:[00.C2.AC] To Address:[00.D6.9D] Flags:[33] Cmd1:[40] Cmd2:[0]. Decode: Direct ACK. From: KEYPADLINK To: POWERLINC1, Unmapped Command
messages I assume that is a missing link in the controller..(?)

Ok I decided to just build the links in both directions but this still dosent update the status on the kpl nor does it let me control the switches from the kpl, even though the links show as verified. I think I am doing something wrong. I followed the steps in the rtf from the ph directory. well I guess it is too late and I will work on this tomorrow when I get home from work. Dave if you think sending you a copy of my DB will help I can do that from work tomorrow....

Todd,
Concerning your SDM log...it looks like you're definately having some communication problems. A different version of the SDM will not change this. You may want to play with the location of your signaLincs or possibly change the location of the PLC. If the PLC is plugged in close to a UPS or near your desktop computer, you may be losing some signal.
If you are linking a KPL to SwitchLincs, you typically want to crosslink them (create a link in both directions). You only have to create a link to control the load, but if you want your status lights to be synchronized, then you'll need the crosslink.
One other thing to definately try so that PowerHome can properly see links and communications is to open the PowerHome Explorer and navigate to the Insteon Units screen and right-click. Go into the "Insteon DM Control" window and first "Clear PLC Database" and then follow up with "Add ID's to PLC". This will insure that the PLC will see traffic from all of your devices (do this first before trying the above suggestions for communication problems as missind ID's in the PLC can cause what you're seeing as well).
Let me know,
Dave.

I found the problem last night my wife plugged the TV (and plugstrip) into the passthrough outlet! I was trying to have the HA computer in the LR so I could out the svideo output to the TV. I guess I will move it... still aving kpl problems but I will try more tonight when I get home from work.
Thanks

Todd,
The first two are definate signs that the PLC has gone out to lunch.
Your last message however is something different and looks like the PLC is not installed properly or did not load properly. It's possible that it's a result of a lockup but is not one that Ive seen before.
How long does the SDM seem to go before it locks up? What version of the SDM are you using?
Let me know,
Dave.

Dave,
I am using 202, and its time is random, 6-8 hrs. And that last one was about 1 hr tops... I have had to exit ph and restart it to get it back up.

Thats definately not a good sign for 202 .
I assume you have background status scanning turned on? You may want to try unchecking this option as it's really not necessary once your network is discovered and you do all your linking with PowerHome. It should greatly increase your SDM longevity.
Dave.

Yes dave, no background scanning.. it seems to happen on one computer I just moved my plc back to it from my laptop... and in about a day It does this... power home dosent see it and dosent try and reboot it... but a shutdown and open of PH solves it.... I assume that is because the sdm is also closed...

Todd,
Definately wierd. So you're saying it only happens on one particular PC?
PowerHome has built in SDM restart code. When it happens next, could you try just closing the SDM? It will probably complain that a client is still active, but close anyway. Then try to send an Insteon command from within PowerHome. It will probably pop up a message saying it couldnt communicate with the SDM but then should go ahead and reload it. Once it's reloaded, let me know if it still has the problem or not.
Thanks,
Dave.

OK, so I closed the sdm and it restarted ok (emailed you the logs), but you saw the first line log:DM=active,1.01.58.202,4/26/2006 7:58:45 AM,unresponsive,01.2C.06,0.1
but what gets me is the fact that 01.2C.06 is not the PLC....
I just emailed you my DB and the recent log files from a fresh restart. My db now some how shows 2 additional plc's that I dont have. hmmm
