I beleive I have read something about this before ( on this forum). But I cant find it... I am running win 2000 Advanced server and I can not get the PH web server to run properly. I have changed the port number in PH so it isn't the same as windowz but it cant find the page/server. Does anyone else know if I have to enable or redirect windowz server to the directory for PH?

First: Check your firewall if it doesn't block ports!!!
then:
W2000AS has the ability to open/close seperate ports. In the TCP/IP settings you should go to the advanced Tab and then Open the ports needed for as well as your web-server as well as your PH-server (both TCP and UDP)

Todd,
PowerHome's webserver is totally separate from Microsoft's so you should have to enable anything with them. The only thing you need to do is make sure that they arent on the same port. PowerHome will usually complain if the port is already taken. Default HTTP port is 80, but common secondaries are 88, 8000, 8080, 8888, etc.
Once you set the port on the PowerHome webserver, be sure and reinit in order for the changes to take effect.
After you've reinited, check the webserver operation by launching Internet Explorer on the PowerHome machine and typing in the following URL:
http://127.0.0.1:88/ph-cgi/main
Change the 88 above to whatever port you specified in the PowerHome webserver. You must specify the port in the URL if you use anything other than the default HTTP 80 (this is not PowerHome but IE requirements). Also, you must type in the "http://" on the URL line if you're specifying a port other than the default.
This should bring up the device status screen. Once you've confirmed the PH webserver working on the same machine, you can try accessing from other networked machines. If you have problems from remote machines, then you may have firewall issues as Peter suggests (on the remote machine, you'll need to change the localhost IP 127.0.0.1 to the PowerHome machines network ID).
HTH,
Dave.

Thanks Peter,
Firewall is not blocking ports (I actually cant get to it from inside network) and no port is being filtered in the tcpip setup.
Dave,
I selected one that wouldn't conflict with windows (but ph never complained about duplicate ports) and yes I was adding the http: and the :8001 but still get a page could not be displayed....

Hmmm...thats odd. Can you email me a screenshot of your webserver configuration? If I dont see anything out of the ordinary, the only other thing I can think of is networking not setup properly on your machine. That wouldnt be the case however if you're able to get out on the internet.
Dave.

you have to define the port you are going to use in PH in there for as well as tcp and udp... if i am not mistaken you have to define both incoming / outgoing ....

Dave,
I am having the same problem that Todd described, only my problem didn't magically stop once I restarted PH.
I have the port set to 8880, and I can access it correclty from the host machine itself, but from remote machines, I can't get to the PH page.... I get a can't find server message.
I am trying to access from machines on my internal network, and don't have filtering or anything special turned on in the router.

Todd,
Using Windows XP Home SP2.
I can access the program fine from the host machine by typing this into the address bar "http://127.0.0.1:8880/ph-cgi/main" but can't from any other machine on my network.
I am behind the firewall so that isn't the problem. I don't have IP filtering turned on.
Not sure what is wrong.
Carl

is this the address you are trying to access from a diffrent computer? http://127.0.0.1:8880/ph-cgi/main
you need to change the 127.0.0 to the actual ip address of the computer you want to connect to... on you r PH maching go to start run command snd click ok.
type ipconfig then hit enter
write down the IP address of the machine.
then type exit and hit enter close that window
then using another machine you need to go theat Ip address
ex..... http://192.168.1.2:8880

Carl,
Todd has you covered. The remote machines must access the PowerHome machine using the PH machines IP address and not the local host address (127.0.0.1 which is always the local machines address). If you're using the default settings of most routers and DHCP, then this will usually be in the form of http://192.168.0.1??:8880.
Most DHCP servers will start at 100. In the case of the PowerHome machine, I would either assign it a dedicated IP address and not use DHCP or if your router supports it, assign a fixed DHCP address based upon the PH machines MAC address. Basically, you don't want the IP of the PH machine changing and you'll want to rely upon it always being the same IP. Especially if you plan to access PowerHome from external internet machines and you setup port forwarding on your router.
Dave.

Is there a way to substitute a machine name for the IP address, instead of assigning a static IP?

Carl I beleive the answer is "You can't do that".... I usually add a dash or underscore when configuring computer names so I can get around this problem.

Guys, thanks for all the help.
I got it done, with the "named server"... Just substituted the name of the computer for the IP address... works great.
Now all I need to do is put together a great Control Center. Not to sound negative, but I found the visual designer to be a bit tedious... took about 10 minutes to get tow tabs and two buttons done.
Any word on when Insteon Buttons might be avaiable?

Carl,
The next version will have a new Control Center designer. Im not sure if it will be any easier since it will be a first release. You will be able to do a lot more things from the designer as well as create the buttons and other objects directly within the designer.
I'll try to get the Insteon buttons in this next version. Hopefully it wont be too much longer but were looking at at least a couple of weeks.
Dave.
