Anybody on this board formally use or looked at using HomeSeer and decided upon Powerhome. If so, why?

I looked at it quickly before getting PH, but, chose PH, since it was a lower-cost beta at the time.  I must admit that I recently downloaded the demo to check it out some more. It seems functionally similar to PH. The problem with the demo, though, is that it is only good for 30 days after you launch it for the first time (I've only been able to play with it once or twice in the last 2 weeks). On the surface, HS is more GUI-oriented, which could be good and bad. So far, it seems to be the same, but, coming from a different angle.

I too looked at HomeSeer, very similar product. I'm going with PowerHome mainly because of the way it handles CD's and (hopefully) DVD's.
BTW how's the next upgrade going? Really need my SECU-16 up and running.

As a matter of fact Im working on it as we speak. Seems that Rob up above has the same problem
I should have a maintenance release out within two weeks which will allow you to read and set the Ocelot variables as well as read and set the SECU-16.

Speaking of that, would an Ocelot be a better value than a Red Rat for IR? I think I recall that the costs were similar and the Ocelot had more capabilities.

Well it depends,
The RedRad2 is an awesome IR only device. It is one way, but the advantage to it is that their is no limit ot the number of IR codes that can be learned because the PC itself does the actual storage of the codes.
The Ocelot on the other hand is an extremely capable device with X-10, IR, and the ability to do digital inputs, digital outputs, and analog inputs all over a RS-485 network. You also have the ability to have zoned IR. Now with the X-10, its faster on receiving than the CM11A, however, I still would not give up the CM11A because I need to send and receive extended commands. But they could be used together. The IR is two-way and can be zoned, the only problem is that the Ocelot itself stores the IR codes. This is probably not a real limitation however because the storage memory can contain up to 1000 IR codes. Plus, you get the ability to add on digital modules for even more control. The Ocelot is also a stand-alone controller. PowerHome does not support programming the Ocelot, but changes are in the works to make PowerHome work together with any internal Ocelot programming.
In my house, I have both the RedRad2 and the Ocelot. I like them both and primarily use the RedRat2 for my IR, but can see where I will need to use the Ocelot in the future because of its ability to zone the IR.
